Can we have a list of the #8 picks who have been huge busts.
Same format as before (#8 picks since 2000):
DeSagana Diop (2001)
Chris Wilcox (2002)
T.J. Ford (2003)
Rafael Araujo (2004)
Brendan Wright (2007)
Joe Alexander (2008)
Jordan Hill (2009)
Brandon Knight (2011)
Nik Stauskas (2014)
Stanley Johnson (2015)
Marqueese Chriss (2016)
Frank Ntilikina (2017)
Jamal Crawford (2000) and Rudy Gay (2006) were the only names that really stood off the page and separated themselves for me, and honestly, I think Crawford was pretty overrated in his career. Rudy Gay is the best 8th overall pick of the last 20 years, and honestly... he wasn't ever that great either. Never made an all-star game in his career, his career best PER in a season was 19.7 and the highest WS total he ever had was 6.4 (for reference, Giannis already has 9 WS this season and we're not even halfway through February).
Channing Frye (2005), Al-Farouq Aminu (2010), Terrence Ross (2012), and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (2013) aren't horrible players, but they aren't/weren't guys you can really build your franchise around at all. They're solid 7th-9th guys on a good team at their peak, but that's about it.
Jury is still out on Collin Sexton (2018) and Jaxson Hayes (2019). Sexton is one of the better young scorers in all of basketball but is pretty limited in all other facets of the game. Hayes has been pretty damn effective in his playtime thus far in his rookie campaign.
So... yeah. When Rudy Gay and Jamal Crawford are the best players that have come out of a specific pick in the last 20 years AND that pick is in the lottery... I think it's safe to say that pick is incredibly cursed.
