Andre Drummond - LeBron's Robin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I just don't think he wants to do the things that make him valuable. Or, better put, he wants to do way more than just those things.

If he would just be a screen setting big man who rolled to the rim, ran the floor, and defended, he could be better than Clint Capela. But he also wants to post up, and handle the ball, and shoot.

And it's why I'd take at least 10 centers in the NBA ahead of him. Frankly, I'm not sure what the argument is at this point he's better than Whiteside, and Whiteside also struggles on actually impacting the W-L column.

I think the talent gap between most centers in the league isn't that big anymore. The top 3 or 4 have a gap over the rest but none are outright #1 options for their team. I just don't think it's wise to spend big money or a top draft pick on a center unless they are extremely skilled offensively.

I still don't mind the chance that the front office took trading for Drummond. If anything he opts into his contract next year and it's a big expiring. If he starts to fit in over that time period, we will have his bird rights and we can pay market value for him, which shouldn't be that much.

Most likely this time next year, we will be wanting to get away from Drummond so bad, we could package him with a top notch Meat Loaf recipe and not get a phone call.

Drummond is a very good stat stuffer, but he’s not much more than that and never has been.

The idea that he was/could be some sort of defensive stopper was always totally bogus.

We were joking about how he compared himself to Durant during the draft process, but so far I am seeing what he said basically. He is ignoring the small things he could do as a center to improve team play, and is instead focusing on ball handling, passing, and shooting which aren't really his strengths.

First of all, nice win last night. I see for better or worse, the Cavs are 3-2 since acquiring Drummond, and are turning around their season. Coincidence? Probably, but you never know. Not only that, the Pistons have lost 6 straight since dumping Drummond for a bag a basketballs. So it's entirely possible that Drummond does affect teams positively.

The thing about Drummond is that for years, he focused on what he was best at, rebounding. And as a result of his offensive and defensive rebounding, he consistently totaled one of the lowest defensive ratings in the league, year after year. But all of that went unnoticed. All the accolades went to offensive centers like Joel Embiid who could shoot 3s and drive the lane. So Drummond started to try to model his game off of guys like Embiid.

Needless to say, this is a huge mistake for Drummond. He will never be a great offensive center. His best hope is to be adequate, by focusing on put-backs, alley-oops, pick and roll baskets and passing out of the post. If he just did that, he could average 15 ppg with a 58% FG% and 3 apg, to go along with his 15 rpg. He needs a coach who can get through to him.

But all is not lost, Drummond will undoubtedly pick up his $28 million option, which will give him, Bickerstaff and the Cavs another year to work it out.

But let’s not forget he’s been pretty awful, and we were down 22 last night until he was benched the entire 4th and OT

I’m starting to wonder if we should have just stood pat at the deadline and let Henson and knight role off the books at the end of the year. Having to put up with Drummond at least till the Trade deadline will continue to affect the culture building process. I understand a 30M expiring is a good asset, but think, like Love, they are dragging the rebuild done and causing bad team related habits to form in the younger guys.

It's hard to integrate a big piece like him. Still, when he says he is very bright, what is he talking about. He makes a lot of fundamental mistakes. He seems like he could have really benefited from a vet mentor. I dunno if TT can be that for him, but he could learn a lot because if TT had Drummond's body, he would be a consistent allstar.

I was just thinking there is no way he is going to close games for us when TT is available.

In these handful of games with the Cavs, Drummond has not shown up in meaningful ways.

He seems to lose interest pretty quick when he isn't getting his touches. He also gripes too much
on calls/non-calls. And for a big guy who spends alot of time in the paint, he doesn't seem to
deter other teams wantonly taking the ball to the rim. Getting back quicker on defense would
help matters there.

I think the idea of Drummond could be better than anything we see on the court. What good is
a big who is a sub-par defender, has limited range as a shooter and who is starting to make
me cringe a bit when he attempts a pass.

I hope for the best but the Drummond era is off to a rocky start.

His passing was supposed to be one of his greatest strengths....

He's Dwight Howard before this season essentially. Needs to hit rock bottom and go to a team with a clear hierarchy that will keep him in line like the Lakers have setup for Howard this year.

I'd much rather keep TT than Drummond...In my view he has very little impact on the game...just sort of is out there

Seriously. TT has played with so much heart and toughness, no matter how bad we've been, I'd take Thompson 10/10 times.
