Andre Drummond - LeBron's Robin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I agree 100%.

And while he’s at it, JB should have a long talk with Sexton also. Because the objective should not be to lead the team in scoring on the 2nd worst team in the league. The objective should be to win.
Right. Cause we have so many guys that can fill the basket.

They knew he would pick this up, won't demand that pay day in FA but that could prove to be to Cavs advantage if they want to retain him.
in other news the desperate to win this season Rockets waived their promising young center Hartenstein who although he never has had much opportunity in the NBA was the g-league finals MVP the previous season and averaged 19.5 points, 14.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.9 blocks in 26 games played.
He is someone they should look at to add to the front court imo if nobody picks him up before next season starts esp if they draft a wing.

There’s a lot of talent on this team. As the talent develops, Sexton will need to learn how to share the ball more.

it doesn’t really matter now. But moving forward the objective of the team should be to win at a better than .292 clip.

Ironically though, the more attention Collin is paid due to his scoring, the more his passing game should develop.

One thing different from say Clarkson is that Sexton doesn't take a lot of impossible circus shots. He has shown a willingness to move the ball when the opportunity is not there. He scored more efficiently than Love this year. If someone is going to take the scoring load form him, he is going to need to be a franchise player.

Also, seriously, at the end of the year, nobody could stop him. The Celtics allowed him to score 40 points on them, and they have more guys they can throw at him than most other teams.

It seemed like many teams were beginning to focus on stopping him, and they all pretty much failed miserably. The only team I recall consistently giving him trouble was the Clippers. The team played well denying him his spots.

this is a good point which I havent really thought about before

wtf smh
things are not always what they seem I guess.
altman must think Dre is worth paying to retain ?
Didnt Dre want to get a max extention from DET and thats why they dumped him for
scraps?
I like his impact as a rebounder and in general, but he has be a lot better defensively to justify an extension

Drummond just exercised his player option for $29 million for 1 year. He did not sign an extension. The Pistons gave him away, because they didn’t want to pay the $29 million. He was a horrible fit with Griffin.

Whether or not the Cavs want him back next year on a new contract will depend on how he plays this year, how the Cavs perform with him at center and what the market will bare.

That depends almost entirely on the amount/size of the extension, which is why the statement that there is "mutual interest" tells us pretty much nothing on its own.

Anything over 15M per is overpay. I don’t want his I think I can dribble ass on this team for multiple years taking up cap

it was a given he would opt in at his salary and with the covid situation. However this is talking about mutual interest in a contract extension in the future and I am shocked they would even be discussing it at this point until he proves himself worthy of one. Right now I like retaining him after 20-21 only on the cheap, and unless the market is completely dry for him I think he should be let go to a team that is a potential contender if he is going to play for fractions of his current deal. The only incentive he would have to stay is if suddenly in 20-21 the Cavs are relevant (lol) or they offer him more than anyone else( possible given the mutual tag) and therefore unfortunate.

The Cavs played .500 basketball in 8 games with Drummond. That’s the best basketball Cleveland’s played since Lebron left.

And they will hopefully land a top 3 pick this year.

And Drummond will only be 27 next season. He’s still young and in his prime. He does need good coaching. He has all the physical tools. I have no reason to believe JB is not the man for the job.

I don’t really care how much Drummond makes. I don’t pay his salary. I’d just like to see the Cavs turn their fortunes around. They have a like able coach and some compelling players in Sexton, Porter, Nance, Drummond and whomever they take in the lottery this year, IMO.
