Set Free: Dante Exum

Somebody said he's good at defense

Has Outback Kobe ever looked good in the pros? I know he has had some injuries but he was ridiculously hyped before entering the league. Then pffft.

Koby must seem some value in Exum because those second round picks are too far out to know what kind of value they will be but San Antonio and the Warriors have typically been decent teams. I would say they will most likely be mid to late 2nds.

Cavs literally turned two average 2nd round picks into Kevin Porter Jr.

So, maybe pump the breaks on "the trade was for Exum" talk.

I'm not saying the trade was for Exum but they must see something in him to not wait for 2nd rounders that have more clarity to their value. Warriors could be back to a top 5 team and I wouldn't be surprise for the Spurs to turn around their team to compete again.

If I'm betting on two 2nd round picks to be good, those might be the teams I would stay away from the most. Also Exum isn't an expiring so they took on future salary for those two 2nd round picks.

GS who knows, but the Spurs have been headed towards a rebuild now for a while. They have no elite talent and their best talent is in their mid to late 30s and they are probably going to trade DeRozen.

So, I'm not too confident in that prediction.

At least both seconds have no protections on them. They're coming to us(or more likely being used in a trade) whether they 37, 45, or 52

As for Exum, if he has even one tantalizing game I'd be surprised.

The value in this deal was:

-2nd rounders
-Minutes created by shipping off Clarkson
-Shots created for the young guys by shipping off Clarkson
-Close to 4M shaved off the salary, which could allow them to take back a larger bad contract in a deal that includes a first without exceeding the luxury tax line.

He's a player I quietly thought would be a good fit with the roster. He has size and can run an offense. His contract is an absolute disaster based on a small sample size due to constant injury. I believe Delly can whisper sweet coaching into his Aussie ear. Let's see how it turns out, but at least he will run the plays rather than break them off. The key here is the draft capital we receive for putting up with that contract.

Do you think he ends up being the #3 guard in the rotation? Basically taking over Delly's role.

He can play 1-3 so I can see them playing some together
