Durant is an HOFer based largely on his incredible shooting and he was a good shooter in college. I'd LOVE to see Mobley be that too, but its a big ask, haha.

He isnt Durant, I dont even think Durant is his ceiling. Durant will retire as a top 5 all time most likely.

Durant is a 6'11 shooting guard. Evan is a 7'1 combo forward.

Evan has some skills of a wing, but he will never be the ball handler or shooter of Durant. But Mobley should be a better defender and has more length than Durant and I think he is a more explosive athlete. We will see if his body fills out to look more like a PF instead of the what he looks like now, i really tall wing.

But puting a Durant comparison on Mobley just isnt fair. I think he is somewhere between a Bosh and Anthony Davis.

Stockpiling bigs? As of right now, how many bigs do we have under contract?

At the end of the season we had 7 on the roster, that doesn't include Prince who could play PF. Right now that number will be lower because Allen and Hardenstein are free agents. Mobley isn't signed yet. If Allen and Hardenstein are signed and we don't cut Kabengele, it will be 7.

In today's NBA there is no need for that many. Chris Grant also would keep bigs because they were easy to find but we know they didn't move the needle if we have excessive depth.

For roster construction, if we don't have a good group of wings that are harder to find, roster spots should be reserved to trying to find weak spots on the rosters. The league is so wing heavy and finding a diamond in the rough wing for this roster would be more beneficial than finding a big. If we found wings on the level of Wade, Hardenstein, or Kabengele, they would be getting more minutes and contributing more than any of those 3.

Prince isn’t a big. Dean Wade plays a wing on offense (hangs at the three point line). Nance is 6-7 and built like a wing not a big. Kabengele is a very marginal talent. Love is washed up and not healthy.

We don’t have any healthy, viable NBA caliber bigs under contract. Allen and Hartenstein are free agents. Mobley hasn’t signed yet.

So we haven’t been “stockpiling” bigs. We’ll sign Mobley of course and likely Allen. Love is a backup along with Wade. Kabengele is end of the bench. Hartenstein won’t come back. Nance will probably play more SF than PF.

Not seeing a problem but maybe I’m missing something.

Agreed.

Even if you look at the 25 players we cycled through last year we had 11 bigs to 5 or 6 wings. If that trend continues, we will only find wings with high draft picks when they are BPA. We even cycled through more guards than wings.

It comes back to finding players that match up in the current NBA and wings are where we should be heavy on not bigs or wings.

I was totally blown away by his film, specifically the way he moved his feet on defense lightning fast, now I am blown away by how well spoken he is, I think we have a home run here. I really do. He also looks similar to Bosh in body shape when sitting there for an interview. He is the first player I am genuinely tempted to purchase a jersey of before he has even played a game for us.

Kind of reminds me of a taller Larry Nance, Jr.

Although I prefer the description by an NBA exec; Chris Bosh on offense, Anthony Davis on defense.

We also filled the backup PG hole so this might be the team for next year.
Kind of reminds me of a taller Larry Nance Jr. but one that has a soft touch around the basket and who can dribble in traffic without getting stripped. And I doubt Mobley wants to bring the ball up the court.

It's hard to find a good comparison. On the offensive end I think he's kind of Anthony Davis, young Kevin Garnett-like. Except less nasty/explosive and less technique. He attempts a lot of high-extension shots in the paint that are nearly impossible to defend.

Bosh was more of a shooter at the elbow... jab, jab, shoot. He also had a good post game and utilized a variety of moves. I don't see much of Bosh's game in Mobley though Mobley's posture and the way he physically carries himself is similar to Bosh. Mobley is less focused on fooling the defender and will drive to put up a one-handed shot above the defender, whereas Bosh was more skilled.

Those are the comparisons I see, but Mobley is unique. He is very confident in this game, whether it means attacking or distributing the ball. He has a quick first step and could be a matchup nightmare depending on the opponent. There are a lot of bad turnovers but that's fixable - he shows a willingness to pass. He'll take that open shot, and he appears to be adept at drawing fouls. He's not gonna just rely on live-game field goals - he's gonna get to that line and get some freebies. His stats don't seem "empty".

Defensively is where I'm really impressed. He seems to have a natural, shot-blocking instincts. He has demonstrated impeccable timing with his shot-blocking, and anticipates the shot attempt quite well. I'd like to see better and more consistent boxing out when rebounding, but he elevates well and usually secures the ball.

He'll bulk up a bit and be better at maintaining his position in the paint. I wish he had a bit more nastiness to him but that's not necessary to be a superstar. All in all... the sky is the limit for him.

Yup, it's just so difficult to project how his body is going to develop going forward. I think the Anthony Davis comparisons are a tall task. For whatever reason, most likely because of what I see as similar build, the Chris Bosh comps are easier to follow. When all's said and done, I hope to hell that the top prospects in the 2030 class will be hyped up as possibly the next Evan Mobley.

I hope this means we can see Kabengele slide over to the 3 some off the bench to cover some of the loss of Prince instead of waiving him

I actually like Kabengele. But playing him at SF is a terrible idea.
I doubt he is gonna make the roster in all honesty, what is he like the 6th string PF

I'm pretty sure he is 2nd string center behind Allen. I'm thinking Hartenstein won't be back. No rumors of us giving him a QO despite having the option to do so. Mobley will clearly get minutes at C but I don't think the team will start him at C in his rookie season and I don't think any of our other PFs can play C much either.
