No use in having Mobley and Allen if Mobley is indeed the pick.

They absolutely can play together and also gives us the ability to bring Mobley along slower instead of throwing him to the wolves 35+ minutes per night.

Cleveland Cavaliers

There’s mutual interest between center Jarrett Allen and the Cavaliers on a new deal, but the Toronto Raptors are expected to be among the strong suitors for the restricted free agent, according to sources. Toronto has attempted to trade for Allen in the past, sources said. The Nets traded Allen as part of the four-team blockbuster James Harden trade. In 51 games for the Cavaliers, Allen, 23, averaged 13.2 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks.

I'm not sure how concerned I should be about this, as Toronto can potentially clear a lot of cap space, but I'm not sure how far they're willing to go. In an extreme-case scenario, they could decline all their team options (Hood, Watanabe, Gillespie), void all their non-guaranteed contracts (Baynes, Boucher, Bembry, Watson), renounce all their Bird-rights (Lowry, McCaw, Stanley Johnson, Len, Trent Jr, among others), and be $35 mil under the cap with just Siakam, Vanvleet, Anunoby, Flynn, and their #4 overall pick under contract. They also have two 2nd rounders in the draft.

So how high could they go with an offer sheet to JA? I can't imagine them offering anything that starts higher than $20 mil, since that would leave them with less than $15 mil to deal with Lowry, Trent, their team options, as they fill out the rest of their roster. If I'm not mistaken, another team can only offer four years with 5% raises, so an offer sheet starting at $20 mil would end up being for 4 year / $86 mil. I'm not crazy about it, but at those numbers I think I'd bite the bullet and match it.

Because of his height people want to see Mobley as a Center, but he has played forward next to his brother who is a more traditional center. I think the transition to the NBA will actually be easier for him at PF. I'd love to at least try out the Allen/Mobley frontcourt if that is how draft night works out. Our dreadful defense might really benefit from having two long athletes in the front court who are above average help side defenders.

If you don't want to break your new rookie, yeah there is.

I have reservation about giving Allen a contract they might not be able to move but it would be a nightmare having a 215 pound rookie playing center full-time.

From the little I've seen of Mobley, it would be a disaster for his development to play him as a center except in small-ball lineups. Much stronger NBA players would beat the hell out of him deliberately to throw him off his game.

Plus playing him at 4 will help develop more of his perimeter skills which is something we want.

From the ton I have seen of Mobley I would agree.

Mobley is more SF than center at this point in his development. I agree he is fine for small ball center, but some of the bigger centers would just eat him alive. He needs to add weight, but the kid is only 19.

Going to RFA should make it so he is tradeable. If someone offers him a big contract, they should be able to trade for it. We need him for at least a couple years.

Maybe the Cavs see Mobley making Nance more expendable than Allen.

Nance probably gets them in the range for the players they are targeting. I'm not sure Allen even if we could sign and trade him now (which we can't) would get us that amount of value.

If this is what Richaun Holmes is looking for, I wonder what Jarrett Allen will want...
