If this is what Richaun Holmes is looking for, I wonder what Jarrett Allen will want...

If Holmes signs say 4 years 70 million, that will give a good base for the cavs to negotiate with. Sure Allen is younger, better rebounder and a bit more range on his jumper, but Holmes has a stronger base and can defend better against bigger players eventhough Holmes is shorter.

Allen is better but they are awfully similar players.

This should eliminate one of the JA suitors

Dallas remains
Considering that Charlotte is actually getting rewarded for taking Plumlee off of Detroit's hands, I highly doubt that the Hornets are satisfied with their situation at C. However, this does push their projected cap space from $8.3 mil down to just $300k. They didn't have enough of cap space to sign JA outright to begin with, so the only realistic shot they ever had of acquiring him was via sign-and-trade.

I've been reading that the Mavericks might have more than 30 million in cap space for this years free agency.

Jarrett Allen is actually one of the most impactful free agents of this class. Could they be targeting him?

I'd match no matter what. He & Mobley are our future frontcourt. They're gonna be a nightmare on both ends.

That's only *if* they renounce Tim Hardaway Jr.

The deadline is today, and FA negotiations don't open until tomorrow, so they'll have to make the decision on WCS before being able to talk to JA. I'm not sure how much they value WCS, or how much picking up his option would influence their interest in pursuing JA.

They don't have enough space without giving up rights to THJ, anyway.

Also, they just got Moses Brown for Josh Richardson, so I can't see them giving up Hardaway AND WCS for Allen when they can have WCS, Brown and THJ.

The Cavs will match whatever offer a team gives Allen, period. He is a really important part of their core, and few centers in the league fit this team as well as Allen does. You can't let him walk without getting anything, and the odds of him getting better outweigh the odds of him getting worst based on his year to year improvement already. If we don't have Allen, our front court is thin so he's not going anywhere.

Miami picked up their team option on Dragic, most likely to be part of a deal that brings them Lowry. If Lowry to the Heat in a sign-and-trade goes through, sending Dragic and Achiuwa to Toronto, they stand to have no more than $6 mil in cap space, which is not nearly enough to sign JA to an offer sheet. One less suitor for JA is a good thing for us!

That would a pretty good contract for both sides. If that is indeed the offer I hope he bites. Maybe he should talk to Nick Chubb for some advice.

That's perfect. Reasonable for both sides imo.
I have no problem with them signing him for this, but who are they negotiating against here? Isn’t the idea of RFA to see
What the market is for a guy?

Miami seems out, Charlotte out, Dalls would have to renounce Tim Hardaway Jr. before even making an offer, and since we can match, that probably won’t happen.

So, why isn’t the deal at $80 or $90m?
Again, I’d take him even higher if it went there, but I’m curious.

I think the FO is doing the right thing here. Secure him asap, offer him something reasonable for both sides. He's really important for the future of this team.

The biggest thing here is that it isn't an overpay. He's worth in the 20 million range.

I agree. They're trying to sign him to an extension, not to let him test the market. That way neither side looks like they're out to get every last dollar. If JA rejects it and chooses to enter RFA to test the market then that will tell us something about where his head is at.
