Nobody Beats The Wiz Khalifa Diop

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Atleast he has a body of a good screener (hopefully he is a willing one)... Cavs doesn't have anybody who could give menacing screens...

Don’t get too excited as he’s unlikely to ever put on a Cavaliers uniform.

Signed,

Ejike Ugboaja & Milan Macvan

Both picked in the 50s. I really don't like this pick. But most players picked top 40 as draft and stashes eventually make it over even if they end up getting cut quickly. The problem I have with Diop is he doesn't really have any NBA skills. He's a big body and thats it. Guess he has something in common with DaSenga Diop. At least we didn't waste a top ten pick on this Diop.

Why do folks keep saying he's not coming over? I haven't seen anything saying he doesn't intend on playing in the NBA, and I don't think the Cavaliers would pick him if they didn't want him here eventually.

I have to point out the physical profile. KAD stands at 7’ with a 7’2 wingspan. That is a legit NBA center.

Unlike Sasha Kaun, KAD is an excellent athlete. His Euroleague team played him low minutes as a backup center, but that is standard for a European high level team with a young raw kid.

I bet Diop is on the Cedi timetable, but intends on developing with the Cavs as his end goal.

I never quite get the point of drafting guys you never intend to bring over.
If nothing else, you can trade their rights for a future 2nd, but never is overstating it. The Cavs are letting another organization develop him.

This was my thought, as well. He wasn't my first choice for this role (Kamagate was), but for folks to continually assert that he's "never coming over" seems weird to me.

My opinion, in the second round you either take the highest floor or the highest upside left and Diop does have a high upside...

Shit, he's supposedly playing in Las Vegas this summer, according to Fedor.

That should tell you enough about the chances of him being brought over in a year or 2.

To make it clear: Summer League Watch parties are back on this summer. Four participating drafted rookies = showtime.

I'm still recovering over the Agbaji pick, and not moving up for a Terry, Roddy, or especially TyTy (how did he fall so far!?!)... But, I don't hate this pick -- even though I know very little about Khalifa Diop.

I trust the Cavs intel to believe Diop may not have been available at 49. After all, DraftExpress had him ranked as their #32 overall prospect.

We all want wings and instant gratification. But having a big, athletic center developing overseas isn't necessarily the worst thing. It gives us some potential flexibility if a home run Allen trade opens up down the line, or if not, it allows us to just ignore finding a backup center in free agency in a couple of years when Diop is ready to come over.

Don't love it, don't hate it. I personally would have preferred taking Kendall Brown, but I also don't do this for a living.
