It's believable that there may have been some relation, and I've read that there was on a couple of internet sites, including this one. (Those other sites? Pure garbage.)

I just want to know the truth of these things, and I'm taking the testimony of @Mr. Orange to heart that this rumor has been debunked.

TL;DR 7-foot tall Senegalese NBA draftees with the surname of Diop may be entirely unrelated. Proceed with caution.
