Nah. I've never been pro Rondo. Bringing him in was a bad idea, and I've been saying it from the start. I don't think he fits the culture of this team, and I don't think he's capable of playing substantial minutes at backup PG for a winning team like this.
I understand I may look like an irrational hater right now, with everyone being in love with Rondo – hey, we "gave up nothing" to get him. But we'll see who was right at the end of the season. It's not the point that we gave up nothing… as the main backup PG (if he ever gets healthy), Rondo has a huge responsibility and he can also fuck up a lot of things for us.
Does it matter that he's also an arrogant asshole? Maybe it does. This is a team of dudes with low level egos and team-centric mentalities. Chemistry matters. Character matters.
All true, but along with being an asshole Rondo is extremely smart. He doesn’t have the leverage or significance on this team to get away with being a jerk to other players. He is not going to be the culture setter or leader of the team, even Stevens is more of that than he will be. This isn’t his opportunity to be a jerk, this is his opportunity to get a few more on court accomplishments before retiring, and I think he knows that.
I was impressed by his performance in the playoff bubble in 2020, kept his head down and made significant contributions. Properly motivated he might have something to give
