Rajon HOT WATER Rondo

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He doesn't break the defense at all. That is the problem. Rubio did. He'd get past the first line of defense and guys would converge on him at the basket. Most of the work is being done by the guys off ball. I think he looks good shooting it, but he seems way more comfy on the catch and shoot.

It's too bad his finishing has gotten so poor.

I like Rondo, and I am really happy they got him. I am totally willing to give him some time, but he looks rusty to me.

Rubio had 27 when he went down. He was just a different leader and he was a chaos agent creating opportunities for guys.

How much of that is him "unable" to do that at this point, vs him probably playing a bit apprehensive with a new team and new guys within the offense?

A good portion of our offense is designed to rely on drives from our guards to collapse defenses to set up layups, dump offs, or kick outs. Even Rubio saw a 50% increase in his drives per game from last year in Minny (8 per game) to this year (12 per game).

Have to imagine the same will happen with Rondo in time and he will begin to "break the defense". It's not like he is slow and has no handle at this age. That clearly isn't the case.

He's playing with no ball stoppers and no heavy ISO scorers for the first time in probably 4 years. I am sure there are going to be some growing pains as he gets acclimated to being more than a ball watcher or a guy to get into simple PnR looks or looks to off ball actions setting up shooters, which is how he was primarily used in both LAs.

Dunno. I agree there should be some wait and see here. I am also wondering whether Rondo can handle the min. Will he be this bouncy in 10 games, or is he fatigued now and going to settle in?

JB says he isn't really calling anything for Rubio. We will find out how well he is running things shortly.

It's play initiation I am worried about. Not many guys on the team can actually do it. We have an ok amount of play finishers.

This guy has been very bad. Can't shoot, can't create any separation, forces passes, thinks he's a leader even though he joined the team 2 seconds ago.

3 turnovers in 20 minutes from a dude who was acquired pretty much to take care of the ball while Garland rests.

Bleh.
Gonna nominate this post for the "Worst take of the Month" award.

The historical and recent numbers show Rondo ranks very highly in assists per usage rate and very low in points per shot attempt and turnovers. You love the assists but have to live with the turnovers and missed shots.

Gotta love the way he forced Fox to take a low percentage shot at the end of the Sacramento game. Fox is extremely quick so the fact that Rondo was able to stay in front of him at age 35 is impressive.

I'm hoping he doesn't shoot much and that his turnovers will decrease now that he has big targets and more of his passes are lobs.

I really feel like Rondo was a smart "best case scenario player" to pick up. Sure, we all want the version of Rubio we saw earlier this year, but that was anomaly we may never see from him again. They should be talking to Rubio as his return date nears to see where his head is at. If he wants to play here, we should give him a contract.

Zomg

What's with Rondo? Pulled hammy? How bad is it? Or was it more about resting him because it's a tough road trip and he's old?

Rondo is old and playing major minutes for the first time in a long time. Why are people worried or concerned he needs to ramp up to it?

Because they want to be right about a move for a player they don't like being bad or useless so they can say "I told you so" on a fan forum.
