Ricky Rubio - Take the Money and Limp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think it is the hard part of the rebuild. We need guys that can help win. Actual pieces we can add to the team. The first round pick is cool in theory, but we need contributors, so unless that pick is further packaged, trading Rubio for pick makes us worse
No doubt it's not a simple decision to make, and there are still so many questions that we will need answered by the end of the season. You're right in that this is the tricky part of the rebuild where we need to delicately balance the near-term with the long-term.

If Ricky plays out the entire season with us and plays well, can we re-sign him and still acquire a starting wing? If we don't think bringing him back is feasible, is it worth passing on a pick just to have him around for the second half of the season? How soon do we need to start winning before the constant losing takes a heavy toll on our young dudes? These are all questions that the FO will be struggling with, and I don't think any of them have obvious answers.

Question:

Can we make more trades with the Timberwolves? They mortgaged their future to dump Wiggins, and they gifted us one of their best players in his prime for a dude I forgot about.

Just keep calling. This front office won't be there forever...

Great, now Jae Crowder, ehm sorry, Demarre Carroll, sorry again, Taurean Prince will drop 40 on the Cavs.

The first comments I've seen out there from Rubio regarding the trade.

He's not excited. How does he feel about the team trading a 29 year old because he was too old for the core?

Contract year, so I'm sure he will want to rebuild value.

Nance Jr got traded because Nance Jr requested to be traded to a playoff team. We have several articles coming from Nance's agent with quotes. I hate pushing a false narrative, it even said Koby was reluctant to trade Nance, as he turned down offers in the past.

Nance felt like he was too old to compete with the team so how does Rubio feel?

Cavs: 3 players Ricky Rubio could have good chemistry with from jump

Mobley,Wade and Sexton according to the article...
Unless Sexton's agent has had a real talk with him as to why the max offers haven't been forthcoming, I seriously doubt that Rubio and Sexton are a good pairing. Rubio needs the ball in his hands to run an actual NBA offense. He's not a shooter other teams are afraid to help off of.

Rubio (age/timeline fit, expiring) feels like an easy flip candidate to a contender. The dude is a professional and young stars like Mitchell and Booker have had nothing but good things to say about him. Hope he can have the same impact for the young guys on the Cavs roster.

I also wouldn't discount the fact that Rubio has only played in 2 playoff series in his career when calculating if we can retain him beyond this season. He will be 31 next summer, played 11 seasons in the NBA, and made 120 million. I think it really adds up to him being a 1 year rental. I think he will want to go to a contender, maybe we will luck into a sign and trade for him.

I'm watching Rubio for the first time tonight in a Cavaliers uniform.

My first impression: he should be the one picked to be the next Dos Equis "Most interesting man in the world". He just has that aura about him.
