No doubt it's not a simple decision to make, and there are still so many questions that we will need answered by the end of the season. You're right in that this is the tricky part of the rebuild where we need to delicately balance the near-term with the long-term.I think it is the hard part of the rebuild. We need guys that can help win. Actual pieces we can add to the team. The first round pick is cool in theory, but we need contributors, so unless that pick is further packaged, trading Rubio for pick makes us worse
If Ricky plays out the entire season with us and plays well, can we re-sign him and still acquire a starting wing? If we don't think bringing him back is feasible, is it worth passing on a pick just to have him around for the second half of the season? How soon do we need to start winning before the constant losing takes a heavy toll on our young dudes? These are all questions that the FO will be struggling with, and I don't think any of them have obvious answers.
