Ricky Rubio - Take the Money and Limp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There is an offensive system to be run -Rubio was running it. What hasn't yet been done is the installation of different offensive packages specific to certain personnel groups.

I say this sincerely, Tip

I don't see it, even with Rubio out there.

I see high pick n roll action with ball handler and a big coming to set the pick and that's it.

He's looked excellent early in the season.

I'm gonna be a little cautious though. I don't think it's entirely coincidence that he's only been on teams that have sucked his entire career.

I personally think it's the true leadership and mentorship he's provided for the incredibly talented guards he's been on teams with that have given him the edge while combining that with measurable on court impact. Donovan Mitchell, Devin Booker and Anthony Edwards have all made a point to talk about his leadership and the role he's played in their development. His elite B-ball IQ and calming presence will do wonders for a team that struggles mightily out of the gate (-2.5 scoring margin in Q1 and -3.3 scoring margin in Q3).

He's kind of in the Crowder and PJ Tucker category. Tough gritty guys that will do the little things to help team win but not good enough to commit long-term to due to their lack of consistency on offense particularly in the shooting department. PJ Tucker just got dropped after winning a title ffs.

getting off to poor starts to begin the game and the second half is why he should be starting early. Not to take away mins from Garland who will play more than Rubio but just to get the team off to a more level start in games and halves.

I do believe he would probably still be on the Suns if CP3 hadn't come available.

With that said Rubio should now be at the prime of his career. I don't know what it is about our little guards but they keep turning the ball over esp at the start of the game. Having a calming presence like Rubio could work wonders to keep the team in more games. Not to mention less turnovers will actually give them more of a chance to run an offense and of course develop Mobley.

I've read that the team needs to win games in order for Altman/JBB to keep their jobs. I've also heard that a few of the lottery guards need to develop in order for Altman to keep his job. I don't expect Rubio to start but if he does it means they are trying to win games. If Garland/Sexton/Okoro starts it signals to me they are more focused on developing the 3 lottery guards.

Utah Jazz sucked ? How ? The only team that sucked was Minny, but that team sucked with or without Rubio for more than a decade bar one season with Jimmy Butler.

But from the top was still Rubio, facilitating for the entire offense. With his great play, Rubio gave the Suns the idea of adding a prototypical point guard to their team to lead their young core.

The numbers first and foremost validate his fit with Booker and Ayton. In 2019-20, the Suns had a +0.2 net rating, barely above neutral. In terms of wins in an 82-game season, the Suns had a net rating that would lead to 41 or 42 wins. However, during the minutes when Booker and Rubio shared the floor together, the Suns net rating rose all the way up to +6.02, with win projections at 57.

Similarly in the the minutes that Rubio, Booker and Ayton shared the floor, the Suns had a net rating of +8.16, equivalent to a 63-win team. Along with other upgrades, Rubio’s impact on the team had turned them from a laughing stock, to a playoff caliber group when healthy.

CP3 doesn't okay the trade to the Suns without their bubble run and the Suns don't make the gamble on CP3 without Rubio's impact.

Rubio is not the kind of talent that can carry a team on his own. He is a very good player, but not elite. His years of experience and basketball intelligence, probably make him the "best" player we have on the roster right now. But that says as much about our roster as it does Rubio.

I’d say Rubio is the smartest and most astute player on the roster, but not the best player. It’s no coincidence the offense looks Much better with Rubio at the point than anyone else.

I always thought Rubio would have fit the Spurs like a glove but it has never come to happen. I also agree with Sailfish, there is a reason the offense looks better when Rubio is out there. He plays a smart brand of basketball and has his pace down. The two young guards could REALLY stand to learn that from him, learning how to use their speed.

Phoenix was 5 games under .500.

true, but right now, Garland is not elite nor very good and has limited experience. Right now, rubio is an upgrade over what we have at pg. Right now

They almost made play-in for playoffs in the season he played for them, and the season prior to his arrival they were the worst team in the NBA. That's massive jump.
In Utah he joined a team that had just lost their star in Hayward and many people thought they would miss the playoffs yet they won 50 games..
The only team that sucked was Minny, but it's the story of that franchise.
