Ricky Rubio - Take the Money and Limp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Rubio also played the best ball of his career in the Olympics. Let's just say he has a fire under his ass that hasn't been there for a few years, and I'm just glad it's there.

agree with Heat Check's take here. rubio had to carry spain in the olympics as his team mates are old already. this new confidence in being the alpha has carried over and i like it.

i think a switch flipped. before he was deferring too much as he's the youngest player in the spanish national team and also in his nba teams. but now he's realized his seniors have declined and he is THE MAN.

i think rubio still has at least 4 very good years of basketball left in him. i think the cavs can be his home for those 4 years.

He's playing for one last contract which likely helps him keep that fire all season long. He's 31 so he has 1 more shot at a decent contract before he starts signing vet minimum deals on a contenders bench.

Bickerstaff tells guys to shoot. Maybe he hasn't had this freedom before

Delicious !

What is the plan with this guy? He’s their best PG by far, and makes them a better team. If the goal is to make the playoffs or contend for one of the final spots, he’ll be here all year.

He balances our guards for sure, but not sure he will re-sign here or not or for how much so you might have to trade him at the deadline and hope a half year of teaching helps Sexton and Garland enough. Or is it worth letting him walk and keep him for the year if the best we get for him is a 2nd round pick?

Its really hard to say honestly.

He really is making a case for himself to attract other teams to trade for him. I think if he is still playing this well when the deadline comes we will have offers better than a 2nd round pick for him. I hoping he is playing well enough that we can get Reddish or a wing we desire from the assets we get from him.

The front office should also be preparing for it and if Pangos isn't the guy who can step in, they should be cycling through guys once again trying to find a better backup PG.

LOL some of you guys already trying to trade him for a second round pick or whatever...he needs to be resigned and I don't
see why that would be a problem given the cavs salary structure. If this team makes big strides towards the playoffs
its going to be because of Rubio and his skillset and leadership.

Cam is playing himself into not being traded. Its till early and obviously the 56% from 3 doesnt last, but i wanted to trade for him in the offseason since Atlanta is loaded at sf and thought he was the one we could pry away and got made fun of a bit because he was playing so terrible.

I obviously didnt see this beginning coming, but his size and athletic profile alone made him desirable to me. But no way we can get Cam for Rubio if he continues playing anywhere close to this good.

Our core is so young. Rubio would be a nice stabilization for a couple more years

I dont know if he wants to be in Cleveland to be honest. Re-signing him might be an issue, but if we do re-sign him, what would that contract look like...MLE is what 11 mill next year? Has to be over that to incentivize him to stay. I just dont see him being a long term piece.

Yeah I guess it would come down to whether he truly wants to be here or not but this team is looking young and exciting and possibly relevant
in the future. Hopefully that helps his decision making process. How many teams have money heading into next off season? We may not have a lot of competition for him ,,,have to let the year play out and see how things unfold. We finally found a guy that can come in off the bench and work magic,,I'm not giving him away for a late first rounder, i would keep him all year at least.

Thats why I mentioned the MLE. I really dont know his motivations, but it has been mentioned his a pro and will play his best but he didnt like the trade. He might be the type to take 11 mill MLE over lets say 15 mill from us. I will leave it here because i just dont know.

I will say i agree, would love him for 2-3 more years to help us grow, but not sure if its in the cards one way or another.

If we remain in the playoff hunt Rubio may stay with us all year, but I doubt he’s with us longer than that. He’s old for our timeline, he’s going to garner some pretty good money with his next contract, and I imagine he would prefer to be with a team closer to contention than we are going to be. I like the way he plays so I’d like to keep him around, and maybe we can sell him on the future, but I doubt it.
