Welcome Sindarius Thornwell

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I heard a Clippers reporter talking about him, and the take was that he simply doesn't take 3's. He took a step back on that last year, but he basically never had the ball last year as most of his minutes came at the end of quarters in defensive lineups.

I really DGAF about his percentages. Like Nwaba didn't shoot an awful percentage from 3, but he was an unwilling shooter. If a great pass isn't there and you are wide open, you have to take it. Thornwell is apparently unwilling to shoot it. That isn't good, and I hope Beilein just tells him to let it fly, because it is the only way this kid will make it in the league.

Just look at Larry last year. When he would stand on the perimeter and kind of mull it over when he was wide open it was not good. By the end of the year he was letting it fly, and that willingness seems to result in more makes because you aren't second guessing yourself and are playing more freely.
Well, Nwaba shot 32% from three, which is in line with his career shooting numbers. He also couldn't shoot in college.

To me, Nwaba was a guy who knew his limitations. For Thornwell, he's shown an ability to shoot at various points. For him, I think consistent minutes and confidence could go a long way. I'd rather roll the dice on a guy like him, who is 24 years old and entering his 3rd year, than a guy like Justin Holiday.

Sure, Thornwell's percentage is better, but he takes fewer than a guy who doesn't take enough. That was my point. He needs to hoist it. No point in having a 3 and D guy if he won't take the shot. I really don't think he shoudl worry about the percentage. If you have a wide open look, you have to take it or the offense won't work.

We've seen it too many times. A guy won't take a wide open shot, but he has 3 feet of space in front of him. He starts dribbling hits a wall, has to turn it over or pass it back out wasting clock. Anyone on the perimeter who can take a 3, should do it if nobody is on their body.

Highlights from Thornwell's 2017 NCAA tournament run. Notably, he went 11/26 from deep over USC's 4 wins...at his best, he can be a very confident shooter. Nwaba in contrast went 4/24 from deep in his entire NCAA career.

Looks like he has some of that Nwaba strong finishing. That is something

Yeah, very Nwaba-y in some ways. Less dynamic than Nwaba with the ball in his hands, but at least in theory should be a more willing and capable floor spacer. Same rock-solid frame that lets him play bigger than his listed height. Don't think we could've realistically done much better looking around at minimum-salary options.

Beilein was also the best in the nation (in my opinion) at developing wings. He took some not-so-highly touted recruits and turned them into dynamic wings in the BIG 10.

Granted, NBA is a different animal... But, we’re going to be young anyway... I see no issue whatsoever in taking flyers on young guys and seeing if Beilein can develop them into something.

And shooting is something he has been able to help guys with. The Cavs have kept the shooting coach that worked with Cedi and Nance too. I can't remember which guys it was, but I am happy about that.
