Welcome Sindarius Thornwell

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Guy is strictly a defender. Absolutely atrocious on offense.

I'm guessing he could be a Nwaba replacement if he makes the roster? About the same size too but about 2 years younger.
Not as good athletically in the halfcourt but will play hard defensively which this team needs.

Practice player to make the offensive guards work hard and end of the bench guy Bielen will use only as a way to send a message to someone who is egregiously slacking on defense in a game. That’s my guess anyways

ShamsBoom !!!

Doc Rivers has always been a master of using his full bench and getting the most out of young role players. From young Ben Wallace to Tony Allen to Sindnostradamus over here Rivers likes throwing a defensive specialist out there with a few scorers to gum up the opponent's offense.

If nothing else, Thornwell will make the rookies work harder in practices. I like the idea of Garland and Sexton facing Delly and Thornwell before the first game.

LOL at all the negativity for a defensive player who can shoot the 3.
This team is void of good defenders and getting one for next to nothing is good value.

Huh? This is a bad take. He’s a guy who averaged double digit points offensively all 4 years of college. His senior year he averaged 21.4 PPG, 39.2% from 3PT, and 83% from the free throw line. All in the SEC. None of those stats scream “absolutely atrocious on offense.”

With that said, no, I don’t ever see him being a big contributor for us. But he does guard well and isn’t anywhere near as bad offensively as you’re making him out to be.

He’s only been in the league 2 years and it’s not like he was on a roster for a young developing wing to be showcased. The next to last game of his rookie season he played 32 minutes, scored 20 points, had 7 assists and went 9/14 from the field. If all he can do is defend, not sure how he mustered up those other points if he only had 2 steals.

Completely agree...he's not a big scoring threat, but we don't really need another microwave scorer anyway. If he can hit open 3's, keep the ball moving, and avoid unnecessary turnovers, that's all we really need from a guy in his role offensively.

He only shot above 40% his senior year in college and just above 40% his rookie year. Last year in even fewer minutes, he managed to shoot a whopping 34%. I'd argue his scoring in college came from him playing 30+ mpgs and just jacking up shot after shot.

I'd argue that for a player like him, his all-around scoring game barely matters. He's going to be the 4th or 5th option offensively every minute he's on the court. That means his role will mostly consist of moving around the perimeter spacing the floor. The question, then, is whether he's a good enough shooter that defenders will bother to guard him out there. I tend to think so, but his shooting ability is clearly borderline. That's why he's playing in Cleveland on a minimum contract, not earning a bigger deal as a 3&D specialist.

There's literally nothing wrong with saying that a guy that averaged 39% shooting on 8-10 shots a game for his college career is an atrocious offensive player. One outlier year where he is a literal man amongst boys doesn't sell me on his ability. Doc ran him decent minutes his rookie year, and next to none last year.

But you guys enjoy getting your hopes up about sub par G-League grade talent.
