Welcome to Cleveland, David Bell - WR - Purdue

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He's a rookie WR3 on a low volume passing attack that features one of their RBs heavily in the passing game as well. I think we need to wait and see if he gets more snaps once Watson is out there.

I feel like the routes the Bell will succeed with when Watson returns are the same short patterns he could be running with Brisket. I just think he’s probably not going to be good.

But you could just as easily argue that, if those routes are going to be the first read for Brissett, why would we not have Amari Cooper running them instead? He's a veteran and one of the 15 to 20 best receivers in the NFL. Bell is a rookie late third rounder, and probably also behind third year DPJ in the pecking order.

Maybe he doesn't amount to anything, but I wouldn't put much stock into two games where he was only on the field a third of the time. George Pickens hasn't done a damn thing yet either and I don't think he's guaranteed to be a bust because of it.

And beyond all that, even if he doesn't become a star, he could morph into a useful WR3 type like Tyler Boyd on the Bengals. Those guys may not be exciting, but they're valuable.

Bell currently has the 3rd most receptions among WRs on the team (behind Amari and DPJ)...

We’ve only thrown the ball 61 times through two games. We have the second most rushing attempts in the league. That’s our recipe for success with Brisset. There’s just not going to be that many opportunities for Bell, especially as we start to work Bryant and Njoku into the game more. Bell’s the 3rd WR but is 5th or 6th on the pecking order at best. Watson will make more use of him.
