Welcome to Cleveland, Demetric Felton

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I agree with you. On replay, it looked like Felton could've gotten the first if he kept running towards the sideline instead of trying to juke back upfield.

I also think that it was just a good play by the defender.

If the defender didn't stop and plant and match Felton, we're all oohing and aahing over Felton's agility and change of direction even more, talking about how easily he made that guy miss.
I agree on all points. Felton needs to learn that sometimes it's best to just plant and go vertical as quickly as he can and get the most yards possible especially when the first down marker is staring him in the face. He tries to break every touch into a long gainer which sometimes causes him to stop and juke when he should just plant and go.

Defenders will adjust to a guy who stops and jukes as his go-to move. Take a lesson from Chubb and hit the seam hard sometimes, which in turn will set it up the next time he does stop and juke.

And on the punt returns, the guys who usually break the long ones are the ones who hit a seam hard, run through an arm tackle or 2 straight to the house. It's okay for him to juke the first guy but after that he needs to find a seam and run through it.

He's got excellent potential if he adapts to what the pro game gives him.

They went away for a lot of his quick touches in lieu of him running actual routes, thus ending his hybrid role.

Probably due to a lack of depth in the WR room.

I think it's Stefanski's playcalling and game plan for specific opponents. He got alot of snaps against the Raiders but that was probably more about who was available to play.

It would be interesting to know who he shared the field with if anyone has that kind of stats. I have a theory that they were using the gravity that Hunt has to open up Felton on the other side of the field early on. If that was the case maybe they couldn't figure out a way to get him easy touches without Hunt.

Here is his snap counts.

Right, even as a gadget guy I thought he'd get some additional touches at points in time.

Especially as his touches were seemingly a lot of simple stuff that may aid in quick rhythm stuff for QBs.

Perhaps D'Ernest being so explosive in stretches took some opportunities for the rookie too.

But uhh, super happy to see him get a TD for a bookend to his first he had week one after bumping his thread lmao

Still one of the sweetest TD's of last season:

I had really hoped they’d develop him as a WR knowing full well he is not a running back.

Now that they’re committing to RB, he’s the 5th of 5 for me because this type of space talent is not something a RB will traditionally use.

Maybe they can sneak him to the PS?

I don't see any way he makes our final roster unless Ford just completely sucks.

Which is fine. He was a sixth round pick in a class that wasn't super deep due to the pandemic. Most of them aren't going to pan out.

I don't get why people are down on Felton?

He had some breakthrough plays and showed something after the catch.. With his ability to play multiple positions, and hopefully develop into a returner, he should have a roster spot on this team..

I don't think they keep Felton for this year but rather keep him for next year when Chubb, Ford and Felton is likely your RB room..

I just don't think he has that short burst speed. He's shifty, etc... but more than not he gets tackled when trying to make a guy miss.

I think he had a meh rookie season. He had the one touchdown and a couple decent looking plays but that was it. Nothing special with returning punts and had plenty of opportunities that he couldn't cash in on. To be fair, I never was high on him and thought he was slow.

I think when people see Jakeem Grant they're going to see the type of player they believe Felton is.
