I still agree with @weepinwillow that player comparisons are too limiting for a 19 year old rookie, and Okoro can become whatever he wants if he tightens up on the offensive side.

However, there is so much Caron Butler in his game. It's the way he finishes with both hands on drives, shoots the three sparingly but picks the right times to uncork, and of course just giving everything he has on his assignment defensively.

I'll give you another player comp for you old heads... Alvin Robertson. Don't look up what happened to Robertson after his playing career ended - it's a sad tale - but one of the best defensive guards in NBA history. Alvin could also fill the statline across the board, ripped head to toe. He also holds the distinction of scoring the first points in Raptors history. Now that was a guy who led by example night in and night out.

I have seen people on twitter talking about it, but has a fanbase ever been so happy with a guy that is this unrefined on offense?

Seems like everyone is down, and more surprisingly people recognize he is really good defensively, even casuals. Chasedown block to save the game makes that easier to believe I guess.

Been looking at his Stat line and unfortunately this guy might be a bust. People saying Butler and Iguanda but I don't see any of that right now.
He’s a 19 year old rookie, playing on a team where he’s the 5th offensive option. On the other end of the court, he’s playing lock down defense and making winning plays and you question whether or not he’s a bust. Sigh

I guess the fact that his coach made a point to laud him for his defense against a former MVP and perennial all star doesn’t matter.
But I get it, you read the stat line and that calls for him being a bust. Next time you look at that stat line take a look at the minutes he played especially in wins. If Bickerstaff has proven one thing it’s that he’ll pull guys if they aren’t doing their job. There’s a reason why Okoro is playing heavy minutes. Even before the rash of injuries he was playing well over 30 minutes per game.

Might want to spend less time reading the stat lines and more time watching the games.

Okoro’s calling cards are his defense and his high hoops IQ. He is rarely out of position and almost never makes bonehead decisions. For a 19 year old, that’s pretty amazing.

Believe me I want to watch the games. Fox sports just won't let me. I got NBA stream and that shit was still blocked local blackout. I have no choice but to look at stat line.

That's fair and all, but maybe you shouldn't say things like he might be a bust...especially for a guy whose calling card is his defense, which doesn't show up in counting stats.

You can find streams pretty easily. I've been using nbabite.com pretty successfully this year, I have to refresh the stream occasionally and the best stream might be the opponent's network but I tend to prefer listening to them anyways. Nice to hear how the rest of the league views our team.

Okoro will be a top 5 defender before it's all said and done. And he has a great mentor in Kevin Love to show him the way.

He needs a pg too.

He had a cut last night where he was quick and the pass was late and he was too far under the basket. He got blocked. He'll figure that stuff out. When he fails, it looks like he can figure it out, not "What the hell is this guy doing???WTF?!"

That basically never happens.

Darius and Kevin back in the lineup will put him in a better role. He's playing like a Roberson or Tony Allen role right here. Smart defensive guy who won't hurt you on offense and keeps the ball moving.

I love the Jimmy Butler comp, but how about another Butler? Caron Butler had a similar build as I recall and eventually developed a really well rounded offensive game

How about a different Jimmy....Jimmy Jackson, lol

Yes, the best way to evaluate a player is looking at stat line with no reference, perfect, lol

Oh and if you are looking at stat lines then you know Butler averaged 2.6 pts his rookie year and 8.6 his 2nd and played 3 years of college so Okoro is 4 years ahead of Butler aleady.

Oh and as a freshman average 5 points for Marquette, a lesser league than Auburn where Okoro averaged 13 points as a freshman and now 8.6 points a game and is 4 years younger when Butler averaged the same in the NBA.

Remind me which freaking stat line you were looking at? Oh the one where Iguodala averaged 9 points as a rookie and 2 years older than Okoro? The one where Iggy averaged 6 points as a freshman in college or 12 points as a sophomore in college?

So Okoro has done better than both Butler and Iguodala in both college and the pros. Do you even know how to read a stat line?

People need to understand teams didn't have a proper training camp. For,people to call Okoro a bust after 14 games is ridiculous.

I'm not worried about his offense because he has ridiculous work ethic just like Sexton and will get better on that end.

I think, you will see him get comfortable taking shots soon.
