Has this guy actually watched him play in the last month? Any list that has Allen 5 spots below Okoro must be discounted as satire. Sounds like a “I had him evaluated highly and now I’m digging for something that makes me look like I know what I’m talking about” article.

Or maybe, and this is just a maybe, you don't know as much about basketball as you think.

All 3 of our pf's are injured right now, one hasn't been healthy all year and the other might be our most important player. We haven't had a backup pg almost all year as one was injured then traded and the other has been once again, injured all year.

Our 2 best offensive players right now are 2nd and 3rd year guards, our starting center has been benched and sent to street clothes so he doesn't hurt the development of the younger players. Our backup sf is a rookie who is supposed to be a great shooter yet hasn't found his shot, and we had to drop one of our most promising players because he is as mature as a 12 year old.

We need to hit the reset button again to get playing good and need to get healthier. But, its not all bad because the worse we play, the higher pick we get to go with some other very promising young players including Okoro who despite what many think, is still a very promising young player.

Patience is difficult, but things are coming together.

Great post. It looks absolutely brutal right now, but I believe that Sexton, Allen, and Nance are positive impact players, and Garland/Okoro/Windler all have upside but are in the "we'll see" state. If we get a blue chip guy in the draft, and one or two of Garland/Okoro/Windler make a leap, our outlook could be much brighter by this time next year.

To be fair, he's the best SF on the roster. I like Windler, but he is too light in the britches and isn't in good enough condition to play starters minutes yet.

Tristan got destroyed every game as a rook. It was rough like this. PF's were the top scorers in the league at the time and it was just a bad matchup every night and feels eerily similar to this. He looked small, he looked overpowered. He learned and he got stronger and he did little things that made you go "ok, but he still sucks" I think that is where Okoro is. I like most of what he is doing.

I think we can tell that the game has yet to slow down for Okoro by the offensive end. He looks like he is doing the right thing but gets out of control.

I do think he would have more success at SG as a Marcus Smart type. I originally thought it would be a good idea to have him come in and spell whichever guard was getting abused worse as a 6th man.
He's probably the best healthy SF on the roster by default. His competition is what, Cedi & Windler? Not exactly an inspiring group. At full strength, I'd rather give more burn to Prince & Nance at the 3 so we can put our rook in a position to succeed at the 2.

(As an aside, does any team in the league have worse wings than us? I can't imagine.)

It might have something to do with the fact that Allen is in his fourth season while Okoro is a rookie who leads all rookies in minutes played. But Sam is definitely banking on Okoro's offensive game improving quite a bit.

In the coming days he'll reveal his picks for 1-35. I'm thinking Sexton should be in that group, but not in the top 25.

Garland is in there too per his youth rankings

It’s always possible I don’t know as much about basketball as I think I do. But here’s what is indisputable: Okoro’s PER is #30 out of 32 qualifying rookies and one of those lower than him is the teenage Eastern European that the Thunder sent to the G League. Almost all of these rooks are without experience, that’s how the NBA drafts them. He’s been given more minutes than any other rookie and he’s underperformed to this point. Comparing rookie apples to apples, he’s not getting it done. If he has a skill that will make him special some day, we have yet to see it. I’m honestly pulling for him. He seems like a great young man who wants to do well. And his success obviously helps the Cavs success. But I keep waiting for my eyes, or his stats, to start reflecting all these great things that are being written about him by the insiders and experts. As a #5 pick, he will be given every chance to succeed (and them some). I hope there’s a 30 for 30 about how he overcame his terrible start to become a legend some day.

I tend to agree he has not seen him play based on this line:
"His jumper looks a bit better off the bounce than it does off the catch"
Has Okoro hit (or even attempted) a jumper all year off of a bounce?? All he does is sit in the corner unguarded and shoot 3 pointers. Maybe that's overstating it but not by much.

Per is an awful stat on how someone will develop and has zero factor on defense. If Okoro was a finished offensive product, great measure. He came in knowing he needs to develop on offense, but has a very high work ethic and is a good on the ball defender already at the pro level and should be able to learn team defense concepts.

Nothing has changed except we see have now seen what developing offense looks like.

Its like the Ray Rice situation before the video came out of him beating his fiancée. The description was exactly what happened, but somehow its much worse when you see it on video although nothing changed except the presence of a video.

Quickley
Haliburton
Ball
Wiseman
Tillman

Are the only good rookies because they have an average or better PER. Quickly is a lock for ROY because his is 18

They hated Larry Nance JR too. Go ahead, check back in the 70's of that thread. Frustrated with his freezing out Sexton, a guy who really needs some freezing out.
Okoro is fine. He needs to work on his catch and shoot jumper and probably his handles. If they don't see it, I'm guessing they won't see it until it's too late. And we will be able to go back to the mid 80's of this thread and pull the receipts.

He has hit 2 step back 3s recently from what I remember - he did make a few in Auburn.

It dos look good when he does that. He gets his rhythm. Hopefully he will grow into that.

He has a similar body type to Bradley Beal and he doesn't seem like a stiff out there. Probably ultimate best case scenario with Okoro.

Big thing is no one ever envisioned Beal as a SF and forced him to play out of position

That’s one of the reasons I thought his offense game will develop as his career goes on.

Maybe not in the pros, but Beal actually played considerable minutes at power forward in college due to injuries and his ability to play big, which has translated to the NBA. Okoro's hasn't yet.

I don't like the comparison at all. Beal was thought to be the best pure shooting prospect since Ray Allen.

Aside from Andrew Wiggins, I don't think there was another prospect I wanted more.
