If you are able to understand and play NBA defense from the start, you can get yourself a lot of playing time and you can really work on your offense in game, because coach can take some missed shots, but bad defense is what usually costs you.
I think it’s a lot easier to polish your jumper and dribbling (you can work on that individually as much as you are willing to), defense, while it can improve, if you don’t have the tools AND the mind for it, just won’t improve that much (in most cases ever).
Also some big Pluses: he doesn’t have broken game or questionable motor or lacking work habits.

Ya man that's what I like about him the most. The work ethic and defense. He'll fit in with Sexton nicely and I anticipate some hard practices. We're building a culture. Imagine JR Smith on this team. O'lord.

This is,why I don't understand so many experts say we reached for this pick. Many of them say we should have drafted Avdija, which made no sense to me.

They want us to take a guy that doesn't have an elite attribute. As,much as I didn't want the Cavs to take Toppin. I would rather them take him over Avdija. Atleast,Toppin is an elite offense player.

Okoro has a bigger upside than Avdija...imo

I had the same feeling about Deni. Deni's size was better, and maybe his playmaking? I am not even sure that Okoro isn't the more efficient on target passer because his ability to get by guys. Deni won't break anyone down off the dribble.

His shooting is significantly worse than Okoro. Even Okoro's ft% is more than 10 points better.

In the end I trust the Cavs because hey saw both guys and thought Okoro had the better ceiling.

When people talk about Okoro's shooting, they make it seem it's completely broken. Even Okoro acknowledged that he needs to put more air into his shot. This is the same thing people were saying about Sexton and we all know how that turned out..

I'm expecting Okoro to get most of his points around the basket in the first half of the season and then start making shots around the perimeter during the second half of the season....Kinda like, how Sexton did during his rookie year.

I just don't understand, why anyone say the Cavs reached for this pick when you have people praising the Hornets for drafting Melo when his shot is worst than Avdija and Okoro's. Hell,he can even play defense yet many draft experts completely ignore those two major things.

If,our defense wasn't so messed up maybe I would understand someone saying we should have drafted Avdija even then I would take Okoro over him.

Melo won a national championship as a freshman averaging 22 pts, 10 rebs and 2 assists in college....not sure you can compare the greatest draft maybe ever and carmello to taking Okoro. Carmello is the no question #1 pick in many drafts including 2020 if he is coming out, even today.

And for the record Melo shot 34% from 3 at 6'8, he had one the top freshman seasons of all time, probably 3rd behind Anthony Davis and Durant,

:)I am pretty sure that a---a80 was talking about a different `Melo`.

I am lost, a bit high, so which Melo? I appologize if he was, it was kind of a crazy comparison, lol

Lee may have been responding to me from many posts back. I was in fact saying I thought he had some similarities to Carmelo Anthony. I was not doing a direct comparison across the board.

I think there are physical similarities. Anthony was a smooth athlete. His motion was not abrubt, but rather fluid, making his moves look easy.. I see that with Okoro.. They have similar frames. They are both deceptively strong..

but there are a lot of differences, and there is no debate about the Anthony's superior offensive tool box coming into the league..

Anthony was drafted 3rd in what may have been a record draft fill of successful players, Many in the second round.. I might argue that Wade, would have been a better choice, in hindsight, or even Bosch, had he not gotten sick..

I don't feel like Anthony cashed in on his full potential through his career, so not a fan. But if Okoro achieves anything like Anthony as a pro, I would say we got lucky in the draft..

I'm talking about LaMelo Ball...lol

Has to be LaMelo - Carmelo was drafted by the Nuggets.

I'm going to go ahead and say Okoro is going to be less of a disappointment than Carmelo
I’m going to say he is going to be a 1000 fold better impact than Carrick Felix who was supposed to have a great defensive presence LOL!!!
