Its like you say one bad thing about Sexton and suddenly i am anti Sexton. The kid has ridiculous speed and efficient scoring, but obviously is a ball stop to some degree. He is in his 3rd year, he will get bad.

As for Okoro, he does everything you can that isnt in the box score that leads to winning. Obviously in the modern NBA he has to work on his shot, but the kid is 20 and in his first year, he will get better by allot.

Throw in Garland and all 3 of our last lottery picks can play ball. People act like with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd year pick all playing our frontcourt we are supposed to have it figured out already. But we are on pace to be a "30" win team which is a year after year after year improvement. Rebuilds take time, and your roster isnt supposed to be complete.

Okoro is not a finished product, not even close, but the kid can play some D and has shown some flashed on offense. I like it so far. I would love to get luck and get a top 3 pick in this draft to add to the roster.

It's more of just how people focus so hard on Sexton's limitations compared to everyone else, particularly Garland.

The Sexton thread has like 3 pages of posts just today. And it's with people complaining about his play last night.

Meanwhile, no one has posted a thing in Garland's thread since Sunday.

Now isn't that a tad odd?

This is what Okoro boils down to for me.

Which is pretty encouraging all things considered for starting his rookie year a month after finding out where he would be playing and not playing organized ball for the previous 9 months before.

This is his floor.

Ironically, it's Sexton's improvement which affords Okoro this much optimism. If his work ethic and gym rat mentality is anywhere close to what Sexton has shown, I'm really looking forward to seeing him next season after a full off-season with pro trainers and pro coaching helping him.

His perimeter defense CAN be game changing and it's not dependent on what he's doing on the offensive end.

What’s stopping you from posting in the Garland thread?

Okoro is the blue/gold dress illusion. Sometimes he's 6'5, sometimes he's 6'1... Other times he looks 6'7.

He's strung some quality performances together as of late, particularly in terms of putting the ball in the hoop.

Is this a Dion Waiters mirage? Possibly, but he could just be finding himself a little bit more.

Dion never defended like Okoro and never played with in the offense. It could be a mirage, but since Okoro is a rookie i doubt it, its just a young kid learning to play in the NBA.

Oh and if it is a mirage, no way its a Waiters mirage, the 2 couldnt be more different, lol

Few players could be as different as Dion and Isaac

Dion has a cement head that we waited for the light to come on.

Okoro is a smart player who needs confidence to expand his game offensively. Dion never lacked that.

If Okoro had Dion's unconsciousness he'd be putting up 15 shots a night. That would be wild to see, I wouldn't mind it.

Yeah guys, I'm sorry for not being more clear.

I simply meant a mirage as Dion's play in his second half stretch of year 2 where he looked considerably better than he had to that point, but ultimately regressed in a big way.

In no way did I mean to compare their playing styles, mentalities, or anything. Waiters was just the last young guy I remember the Cavs having who looked like the light bulb had come on when in fact it hadn't.

I think i'm most optimistic about is how more aggressive and coordinated he is going to the rim. He is quicker, more decisive, more explosive and in control when attacking. His shot also looks much better.

Things to be optimistic about. Let's see how it progresses.

My main thing right now with him is that he needs to improve his handle. I hope shooting and dribbling are the main things he works on this off season.

Yeah he really doesn't have any moves to speak of. However, he also lacks a quick catch and shoot game or a pull up mid range game.
So far in his successful offensive games pre-season and these last stretch is hitting open 3's, transition, and straight line drives to the basket.

If you can hit 40% of open 3's and play defense, he'll have a career in the NBA. But with his size if that's all he brings he'll probably a bench guy. Could be a valuable bench guy but if you look at playoff teams, they almost all have SG's who can at least do a few things on offense so you can actually run a play for them. A guy like KCP on the Lakers has become a pretty standard playoff caliber 3 and D SG but he also can catch and shoot and pull up (he doesn't have a great handle).

Can he develop this stuff sure but it would be nice to see some flashes to make us fans more confident in a Jimmy Butler like progression vs Gary Harris vs Demarre Carroll

Rookie treatment. Played really well. Wish he hit that 3 at the end. Felt like the last chance
