JEREMIAH OWUSU-KORAMOAH

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think some people have touched on this on twitter, but one of the ways to really improve the defense is to jedi mind trick teams into running the ball more by playing personnel or packages that bait the run, because almost no team has the personnel to make the run a more effective play than the pass. Maybe that comes with playing JOK as a WLB in base.

The nice thing is we can also use him as a big nickel/dime slot corner if we want to stop the run and give more of a blitzing element against spread sets. I hope our defense is creative enough to use him well.
I do have some concerns about the run defense. I know our defensive line with Billings and Clowney should help a lot but a concerted effort has to be made to stop the run when opponents are determined to do it. I'd like to see all sorts of wrinkles in the defense with our safeties lining up all over the field and being in position to help out.

NFL teams do weird shit.

Seahawks took Rashad Penny instead of Nick Chubb.

DK Metcalf was a 3rd rounder.

Russell Wilson lasted late, as did Dak Prescott.

I find fallacy that JOK isn't great in man coverage because he was drafted mid 2nd.
The fact that he refused to answer the question, and then made the post he did, speaks volumes.

To bring a little levity to the thread, how about this 2012 article about the worst drafts that year?

"No. 1: Seattle Seahawks

After one of the worst picks in the first round I can ever remember, the Seattle Seahawks didn't draft any positions of need or draft for the future.

Pete Carroll is proving why he didn’t make it in the NFL the first time. Not only was Bruce Irvin a reach at No. 15, the Seahawks proved they were oblivious to their madness by celebrating their selection.

As if the day wasn’t bad enough, Seattle selecting Russell Wilson, a QB that doesn’t fit their offense at all, was by far the worst move of the draft. With the two worst moves of the draft, Seattle is the only team that received an F on draft day.

Grade: F"

:chuckle:

DK metcalf was a late 2nd rounder, only pointing that out because it could become an exact replica of JOK.

DK had amazing workouts like JOK, without the combine we only had the pro day, which might have hurt JOK a bit.

DK had a neck injury where he missed games but he healed on that injury like the heart thing with JOK who both were cleared.

Then there was the over thinking. DK had a poor cone drill and teams started thinking he was quick enough to run routes and overthinking the hips. JOK is small for a linebacker and despite showing great ability to tackle at ND, teams overthought the size thing about doing it as a pro.

We liked him enough to move up to get him, our head coach has been very good so far adjusting to our personnel. This is all very exciting as JOK is very talented and very athletically gifted.

Bruce Irvin in a redraft might not go in the 1st, but he has been a decent linebacker. No comment on Russ Wilson, we all know how stupid he looks now.

Look, nobody has a spotless record in following the NFL draft process. However, there is good reason the most plugged-in Browns fans saw a perfect match in JOK and this specific defensive system.

Joe Woods has talked about running either the nickel or dime the majority of the time. And then many posters on this site put two and two together... wow, here is a player who bounces all over the strong side of the defense, creating an incredible impact at the line of scrimmage, in the middle of the field... and against all expectations had developed into a slot corner in man coverage. He is simply a perfect weapon for the nickel/dime system because he can also fill in the holes such a system creates against the run.

And similarly, the front office of the Browns have shared this excitement over the match.

So enjoy, celebrate, and be happy the team found a great scheme fit without concerning yourself that other defensive coordinators with opposing systems feel differently.

I never once thought of the two players as being in similar positions, but you fused some connections in my brain @Lee . You're bringing back up my thoughts that maybe JOK fell because people were too concerned with what he can't do, and forgot to consider what he can do--like DK.

For what it's worth, I may have been a little high on Metcalf coming out.

I think in real life Washington ends up with DK Metcalf at #15. I love the guy if you just ask him to run big-man routes (slant, post, go) like the Lions utilized Calvin Johnson and the Browns utilized Josh Gordon (the two players Metcalf reminds me of).
But outside the obvious guys, I'm super excited for DK Metcalf. I'm way higher on him than most around here. I think he's going to be a great example of why we need to stop tearing down prospects for what they CAN'T do, and start focusing more on what they CAN do. Give this guy to a strong passing game, and an OC that has him run slants, posts, go's and comebacks. The dude's a freak.
6. 1st WR drafted? Metcalf
DK Metcalf #1 WR off the board.
We also did not have a #1 receiver. In real life, I expect the Redskins to take DK Metcalf at this selection. While Metcalf may not be a sexy, flashy, agile receiver, this game isn't about what can't a player do. It's about what can a player do. Metcalf can come in, run big man routes (Slant, Post, Go) and break the game with his athleticism.

If my team's philosophy is to run the ball down the opponent's throat with Guice, Peterson and Thompson running behind a dominant line, a burner like Metcalf who can take a ball to the house is a perfect compliment to that philosophy.

Unfortunately, Metcalf went to the Lions.

Its not about position obviously. Its about situation and how GM's can get into their own heads, but DK dropped because they over thought the neck injury and some work out shit.

If JOK ran the 40 at the combine, he might have been a 1st rounder as GM's love the 40 times and he might have ran something like a 4.4. His 3 cone drill and 20 yard shuttle would have been toward the top of the safety class. Thing is, he plays linebacker.

Just get him into the weight room with Myles, add 10lbs of muscle to help shed blocks better and dont over think it, he is a Butkis award winner we were lucky enough to get in the 2nd round.

I think fans and the media place far more stock into combine 40-times than NFL GM's... well, at least since Al Davis kicked the bucket :chuckle:

I'm not lashing out or angry. Annoyed? Sure. I'm reflecting on the last 9 pages and in the threads before the draft. An overwhelming amount of the comments are JOK is a can't miss prospect, one of the best ever college LBs, rated higher than any LB in the last X years, can do things other LBs can't, being compared to Troy Polamalu. Still hasn't played an NFL snap and no one knows how that will translate to the pro level.

I get it, we're excited about someone we drafted, I've been there many times. But this entire site has the tendency to overrate prospects, just a taddddd bit for the NFL (Goff), Cavs (Cedi) and Indians (Daniel Johnson)

Sorry that I don't track prospects like others on the board and can breakdown whose great in man/zone coverage, different schemes. Never been that guy and never will. Usually I leave that to the scouting department and rest of the front office. I get content from draft articles/podcasts.

Can already picture it now if JOK is struggling.... "Joe Woods isn't using him correctly. We have to bring someone in that knows how to utilize his strengths". I hope I'm wrong about him and he proves he is the prospect you all think he is. But when you go against an RCF darling, it's never pretty.

Remember our trio of 2009 2nd rounders? They were all Bupkis award winners!

Are you suggesting that those that want to talk about JOK before the season starts should post in a secret JOK thread that you cant view?

Wait, are you saying Robiskie and Massaquoi didnt solve the WR issue?
