Except he isn’t very efficient with those targets.

Beckham can get a high volume of catches and high efficiency.
Jarvis is one of the best players in the league at getting open in tight windows and short spaces. He was a polished route runner at LSU and has only improved since coming out. OBJ is going to be doubled every play, leaving Jarvis and the rest of the team to thrive. It's not unreasonable for Landry to have a ton of targets.

Not all targets are created equal. I think rating a receiver based on efficiency is foolish. Guys like Edelman and Landry are fantastic players, regardless of what the numbers say.

He has a role on the team. That role is just not having close to the targets that OBJ has.

I don’t understand how everyone is basing Jarvis‘s efficiency on one season? In his career he is a top 15 WR in catch efficiency. He had one down year, a year in which he was adjusting to a new system and QB. There is much more evidence that he’s going to have an efficient season than there is that he’s going have another season like last.

If there's always a player blanketing OBJ on top of the route, then you watch for where the second safety is playing. I expect a large amount of our plays to be runs or quick hitters. Kill them with easy plays, force them to come up and stop something, leaving OBJ to torch them.

I guess we'll see how things shake out. But I wouldn't be surprised if Landry and OBJ are within 20 targets at the end of the season.

For people criticizing OBJ practicing these types of catches...will he ever need to make a catch like this in a game? Most likely not. But there's something to be said about training your hand-eye coordination and body control in extreme ways to be ready to react to anything come game time.

Anyone who's played a varsity level sport or higher has likely experienced this in some fashion. You train for extreme situations so that things just become instinct.

Afterall, I don't think I've ever seen someone criticize Steph Curry for shooting from the tunnel or practicing 3/4 or full court shots. Really not all that much different.

He's better than 90th in yards/target exactly once in his career. Duke was more efficient with his targets with Kizer at QB than Landry has been.

Catching a lot of short passes isn't necessarily efficient.

Again, nobody's criticizing it.

BMAN made a troll post, basically a reaction to the way people have been shitting in the Indians section. Now we're three pages deep into nonsense.

Let it die.

Can you please explain why yards per target has anything to do with a WR's ability?

You seem obsessed with this idea of "efficiency" being used to judge a WR. Guys who run deep routes aren't de facto better players than guys who run shorter routes.

Jarvis gets the targets he gets because he gets open.

Of course OBJ getting more attention will open up other option. I still don't think Landry should get a lions share of those either. I would rather Njoku, Higgins, Callaway and the RBs all get roughly an equal share with Landry.

The complaint his entire career is that he's basically a stat compiler. He got a ton of targets on a team with a QB with a noodle arm and became a top fantasy player, which tricked people into thinking he was also an elite receiver. But he's not. He's good, and certainly a starter, but he's not a top twenty WR in the NFL. He also never misses games, which helped with the stat compiling.

He's in a perfect spot now as a WR2.

I don't disagree with Landry being in a good spot for a WR2. That's what he should be in the NFL.

But he also shouldn't be getting paid like he's Julio Jones either. So at some point, value for the money is going to have be considered.

I definitely don't see him being on the Browns past his current deal unless he signs on a discount.

I think in a perfect world, he's a great #3. If Callaway becomes a legit deep threat and stops being an idiot, I think he's a great compliment to Callaway and OBJ.

As a #2 I think he's solid, but not spectacular.

I think the Browns have an upcoming crisis with their salary cap, especially now that Corbett is trending towards mega bust.

If the Browns have to prioritize re-signing Tretter, there is going to be a real problem with the salary cap next year. And it would pretty much cost the Browns Kirksey, Schobert, and possibly Randle as well. (Assuming they keep Landry/Landry doesn't give up any money to stay)
