Maybe I should have included this as an option: Stefanski was driving the tank to get a top 10 pick next spring.

Argument for that is pretty self evident. The argument against it is that I can't believe that Stefanski would risk losing the team and hurting Mayfield. He just doesn't seem like the type. And I wouldn't expect a tank job to look so much like an accompilation of Stefanski's biggest short comings in one big shit show. Seems like an intentional tank job would look more experimental.

Right, this is the strangest part of this to me. This team is literally the least healthy team in the NFL, its not difficult to hold these guys out for the final two games and tank. Baker's shoulder has required surgery for 3 months now. Just hold these guys out and take the loss.

I hope they sit Baker next week. I think whatever fans show up are going to be ruthless to him. He's a good kid, just having a bad year. I hope he turns it around next year, but we do need better competition for starting QB, if we don't make a trade for a Rodgers or Wilson.

I have long-term concerns about Stefanski managing this team. I don't think he handled the Baker injuries well, I don't think he handled the OBJ situation well, I don't think players are held accountable.

I know it's a different sport, but I've always felt Tito's best skill as a manager is managing a clubhouse and all of the personalities inside of it. I can't see Guardians players bickering back and forth through the media/socia media over the course of a season. He'd squash that shit fast. I also can't imagine Belichick allowing it. Anytime Juju starts up Tomlin squashes that shit fast.

I wonder if KS being relatively young is preventing that from happening. I just don't feel like he has control of his team.

All I want to know is this: How long will Kevin need to find a QB that suits his style? He does not appear to be readily adaptable.

I mean, it's literally about finding a QB who can mentally handle it. With all due respect, all Stefanski has done since being here is adapt to Baker's limitations. They never run deep crossers or, god forbid, anything that requires him to make detailed reads because Baker cannot do it.

He helped make Case Keenum into a Pro Bowler and gave Baker his best season in his career. I'm excited to see him get his guy.

I don’t see how KS and BM can both return next year. That relationship appears to be broken beyond repair. There are several teams looking for a QB so I suspect BM will be traded, but I don’t think it will be easy to get even an average QB to replace him.
And the irony here is that Mayfield's performance last season directly resulted in KS winning coach of the year.

So the scheme works perfectly fine when the QB doesn't play like shit?

I'm still trying to figure out the weird fucking path that we and Baker have been tumbling down. This season was mismanaged. The whole thing. Yes, the QB ruined himself in week 2, and has been worthless since, worthless since. Did I mention worthless? That's what he's been since he attempted to show the large people how he was the Man.

There's room in the NFL for larger than life characters, but they are handled gingerly. Bake's just not quite large enough.

There is more to Baker than we have realized, but is there enough? Questions never known.

I stand by my statement. Mayfield's play in 2020 won Stefanski coach of the year. Now each of them publicly threw each other under the bus after the Pittsburgh game. Try following the bouncing ball.

Mayfield's average QB play in 2020 allowed Stefanski to win CotY because he schemed the offense so a one-read QB with happy feet could play average. Because Mayfield wasn't completely inept, the running game was able to flourish and not allow teams to stack 8 men in the box like they did in 2021. But I still think we should blame Stefanski.
Is this what you meant to say?
