What is the greatest song of all time?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Summer Breeze-Seals and Croft
Runnin down a dream- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Bohemian Rhapsody, One Vision-Queen
I ain't no joke-Eric B. and Rakim
Alive-Pearl Jam
Best of you-Foo fighters
Like a stone-Audioslave

More a favorites list, but I'd be ready to argue any one of these songs as the GOAT :chuckle:

Well, you're right that you really can't see Kilimanjaro from the Serengeti. But they're much, much closer than that. Kilimanjaro is only a couple hundred miles from the Serengeti. So you could have breakfast with Kilimanjaro looming over you, and have lunch while watching the great migration.

I think theoretically, if you were standing in the eastern part of the Serengeti on the highest elevation you could find, there's a chance you could see the top of Kilimanjaro on a very clear day. But I doubt it.

My dad lived in Arusha for 7 years, and my brother and I spent a month there just about every year. Been to both places 5-6 times, and couldn't see Kilimanjaro even from Arusha, which is a good bit closer than is the Serengeti.

But the song is still a quintessential example of yacht rock. Ugh.

RIP Koko. At least he died to the smoothest rock song ever.

The Mexican by Babe Ruth is another classic, amazing track.

It's rare in any interaction that somebody drops a song as old as I am that I haven't heard before. Checked it out... outstanding! I see now it's been sampled by about ten songs I enjoyed in the era of The Disco to Dust Brothers... but the original is exceptional. Thanks!

Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
In The Air Tonight - Phil Collins

Bit of everything for everyone.

Don't know if they're necessarily "the greatest" songs of all time (very subjective and I bet most of us could name 10 other tracks each that the next person wouldn't have heard of) but as far as the tier of both most recognizable and iconic goes, that's where my thinking lies.

And as a side, just because it's me, anything and everything from Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, ever.

I feel that after around mid-90s music splintered so much that the every idea of commonly acknowledged "best songs" became a very difficult concept.

Is there a song from 2010 on that has legitimate claim? Or 2000 on?
Call me maybe, obviously.

I might have been young in 1979, but I call bullshit for five reasons.

You are all welcome.

Don Henley- Dirty Laundry (been wiped from the internet or I'd post a youtube link)

Always loved Paul Rodgers voice. Never understood the love for Freddie Mercury's.

Big seconds on Stairway, Sympathy, Dream on, and Smells like Teen Spirit. I know the last of those gets some flack, but it's one of the only songs where I can still remember the very first time I heard it, and though "holy fuck". And I don't even like grunge now. I'd switch up song selection from some of the other bands you've listed. So I'd go with:

Won't Get Fooled Again
While My Guitar Gently Weeps

I'd put Born to Run in there as well.

Some that probably aren't good enough but are still great songs:

Fortunate Son
All Along the Watchtower (Hendrix)
The bolded was my choice. Here are a few more that I would also add and people have not mentioned:

The Thrill Is Gone --> BB King
Pride and Joy --> Stevie Ray Vaughn
Everlong --> Foo Fighters
Tiny Dancer --> Elton John
Alive --> Pearl Jam
