What's next? (Post-Kyrie trade moves / transactions)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Like it or not, we are most likely gonna need to use players like Zizic or Osman to move our unwanted contracts. Let's face it... neither of those 2 are ever gonna get significant minutes on this team. I understand that a lot of Cavs fans want to give them a chance to play here and see if they grow, but this is about competing for a championship now, not waiting and hoping for 2 or 3 years down the line. We have too many holes to fill, and you gotta do what you gotta do to fill them. We need 3 open roster spots to fill our needs (Wade?, Bogut?, Tony Allen?) and we need to get this done soon, before the season. We currently have 17 players under contract. 5 need to go. I understand that the trade deadline is when the bigger deals "might" happen, but what if nothing happens and no big names or all-stars become available? We need to be ready when we start the season. I think Jefferson either gets dealt now or retires, and the Cavs need to decide if they are keeping Tavares and Felder or cutting them. Frye and Shumpert are the 2 bad contracts that are probably gonna cost us assets to deal. Frye fell out of Lue's rotation completely, as did Shumpert due to not playing up to par. Maybe we get lucky and get to keep Zizic or Osman somehow, but Frye and Shumpert are not gonna be easy to move, especially Shumpert.
:puke:

I'm praying this is sarcastic.

Why would it be sarcastic?
Ideal would be Frye + Shump but doubt Wolves' bite, then I think it can be done with either Cedi or the 1st but I proposed the highest Cavs can pay.
Dieng is a solid, almost 7ft, player with a good shot, decent rebounding n rim protection skills. Thats the kind of 2 way player this team need + under a long term contract.
If you have only to move 2 contracts you want to get rid of + 1 asset, then I'd do it. If Wolves ask for 2 assets (Cedi + 1st), then I agree you have to think twice.
For Minnesota, that gives them a front court player with elite 3 point shooting (they lack 3 point shooting) and that fill a bit their 2/3 positions which at the moment are thin.

Dieng doesn't have that value, especially since he has regressed oevr the last 3 years. I doubt he is actually 27 and he is no longer a good rebounder or a good defender for that matter.

Doesn't move the needle against GSW.

What unwanted contracts? Shump and Frye? do you think their contract is so bad that it warrants adding prospects such as Zizic and Osman?
Frye is an expiring and is still a net positive player if played correctly and Shumpert will be an expiring next year. I have seen much worse contracts being moved without adding any sort of incentive.. see Miles Plumlee.

We need to hold on to every unknown prospect we have, especially if we go on a rebuild.
If either Zizic or Osman or even both develop beyond expectations, that's a huge asset by itself and you can't throw that out. That's the wrong thing to do.

Jokic shortened the Nuggets rebuilding timeline by atleast a few years and when a 2nd rounder/late 1st pans out it gives the franchise a huge advantage and flexibilty because of the cheap long term contract.. especially now that every top 5 pick demands a max contract regardless of his contributions.

See Wiggins, got a max contract and perhaps set the Wolves back if he doesn't pan out.

I am thinking our next move needs to address a shot blocking big and rebounder to assist TT.. Alex Len still has not signed his QO with Phoenix at four milion. I am thinking he was eligible for 12. I am wondering if we could package Shump and Tavares in some way to pick up Len. Phoenix has Chandler as starting center..

I understand Len has dissapointed, but he has rebounding and shot blocking chops. Shump played some back up point for us ( pretty well actually) and could spell Bledsoe on a suck team until knight is operational.. then he is useful at the 2-3...Crowder makes Shump redundant to us..

I am not sure how to make the money work, as i am not clear on the rules of sign and trade..

Ideal value would be Shump + Frye + 2nd with no 1st or Cedi (which equals a late 1st) I'd say. But when you play for a championship, you often overpay as teams know pretty well your needs and lets say the FO is a bit of an unknown in terms of dealing.
Regarding the regression over the past 2 years, that is not that big and for the rebounding part, it might be due playing alongside KAT. As for defending, doesn't help when your front court teammates are Wiggins n a disinterested KAT on that side of the ball.
For the age, I don't know but doesn't look to me as over 30 like, lets say Ibaka.

Rumor has it that New Orleans has as interest iShump. But looking at their roster I'm not sure who would interest us. Asik?
Any ideas? Maybe need a 3rd team?

Asik might be more worthless then Shump at this point.

Its time to bring Delly back guys,,,Wade is coming and can take any minutes Shumpert was going to play.
In Delly you got a great locker room guy that will do anything the team asks of him. He takes the load off Rose and this way
we can sit Calderon at the end of the bench. And of course he's like a god here so its a No brainer to me fellas. Shump and the miami second rounder for Dells.

I feel like we need to push more chips in for this year to get another player now. If our primary objective is to keep Bron then the best way to do it is to win a championship this year. We don't have the pieces to win a championship right now. Even though I would argue we got a little better with IT and Crowder than we were with Kyrie. We're still not enough better to beat GS. But if we can turn some of our assets into another impact player then we are.

What's the ideal impact player?

A two-way Center who is upwards of 15/8 a night. We have to upgrade TT and force GS to guard the middle. Especially if we plan on keeping Love. He absolutely needs another Big who can compliment his game and cover for him defensively.

I'm afraid you're going to be real disappointed then. Here's the list of bigs that averaged 15 or more points and 8 or more reb last year.

C:
Jokic
Whiteside
Cousins
KAT

PF:
Love
Davis
Griffin

Cousins is the only hope unless Riley wants to deal with us for whatever reason.

Sixers Will Try Again To Trade Jahlil Okafor
September 20th 2017 at 9:02pm CST by Arthur Hill

The Sixers plan to call around the league again to see what they can get in exchange for third-year center Jahlil Okafor, tweets Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Coach Brett Brown confirmed that the team will see what sort of return might be available.

The third player taken in the 2015 draft, Okafor hasn’t lived up to expectations in two seasons in Philadelphia. Injuries and off-court issues have gotten in the way as Okafor has played just 103 games over two years.

There are also financial considerations, as the Sixers have yet to make a decision on Okafor’s $6.3MM option for 2018/19. The team may be reluctant to tie up that much cap space with a banner crop of free agents due to hit the market next summer.

Okafor is stuck behind Joel Embiid in the Sixers’ rotation and may never be a full-time starter if he remains in Philadelphia. The team also signed Amir Johnson over the summer and got a promising second season out of Richaun Holmes, so there may not be many minutes left for Okafor if he stys.

The Sixers were reportedly engaged in Okafor trade talks with the Pelicans and Bulls before the February deadline to clear up their logjam at center. However, those deals fell through and they wound up sending Nerlens Noel to the Mavericks instead
