What's your perfect offseason?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
1. David Blatt joins as Head Coach; Mark Price as Assistant
2. Renounce Deng, Hawes and Gee
3. Trade Jack + Karasev (to a team with cap room willing to pay Jack to get Karasev)
4. Re-sign Miles @ $2.5m per year (2 years with PO)
5. Andy Varejao for Asik straight up (assuming HOU don't get a max FA)
6. Sign LeBron James @ $21m per year (cap at $63,088,650 incl. #1 Pick Hold)
7. Trade Thompson + 2x POR 2nds + 2015 CLE/CHI 1st for Arron Afflalo (meets 150% salary rule)
8. Trade Bennett + Waiters + Hopson (NG) + 2015 MIA Pick + 2015 MEM Pick + 2nds for Kevin Love (meets $5m max difference rule)
9. Draft Joel Embiid at 1 Overall
10. Draft K.J McDaniels at 33 Overall
11. Sign Anthony Tolliver for the Vet Minimum
12. Sign Beno Udrih for the Vet Minimum
13. Cap at $72,967,628 (below luxury tax threshold - options to sign more vets as necessary)
14. Dan Gilbert signs the cheques and gets out of the way

Roster:
Kyrie Irving // Beno Udrih // Matthew Dellavedova
Arron Afflalo // C.J Miles // (Matthew Dellavedova)
LeBron James // (Arron Afflalo) // Carrick Felix or K.J McDaniels
Kevin Love // (LeBron James) // Anthony Tolliver
Omer Asik // Joel Embiid // Tyler Zeller

Next Year - S&T Asik for 3rd wing; MLE for 3rd big; Embiid becomes full time starter

Wow just wow, that's a lot of movement

I'm really intrigued by a front court of horford and embiid

I still want to keep dion though. Making this probably not a reality.

I go back and forth on keeping dion

I wanted to give up on dion kyrie experiment but I think id like to see what a real coach could do with those two

Kyrie
Dion
?????
Horford
Embiid

Given the Houston looking to make moves rumour, and Clippers possibly looking to clear cap, and of course the unfortunate news about Embiid.

I again, would like to restate my offseason. This is a far more realistic than the previous one.

So basically two scenarios.

First Embiid's foot looks like there is no long term damage, so we trade down to Philly at #3 to get #10.

We use #3 to get Embiid, and trade number 10, Tristan, AV to go after Love.

Second scenario

The Rockets/ Clippers are trying to clear room for a max FA, and in doing so look to trade a C.

We stay at #1, draft Wiggins or Parker.

Trade for Jordan/Asik, preferably Jordan in a salary dump.

Then try and make a move for a Pf. Not necessarily Love, although it would be nice.

In any scenario I always think we should make an offer for Pau Gasol, Ray Allen, and Vince Carter. They likely won't sign, but all three could be very beneficial for us.

I'll roll on in and drop some opinions!

First, the initial "dream offseason scenario" has already happened for me -- we got Blatt!

So if I'm going by player movement, etc:

1. Well, get Lue (done!) and I'd try to see if I couldn't pry Brian Keefe away from OKC -- "defensive coordinator" if you will, worked with those guys out there in OKC and would really give our young guns a boost.
2. Resign CJ Miles. I love CJ -- he's a fantastic player for us and I truly believe that he could really do some impactful things given the right circumstances, which would come later in the offseason. However, if I'm looking at the guys I want to bring back, CJ is first on my list.
3. Resign Matthew Dellevedova and Carrick Felix. Both great, young rotation guys who are well-liked by the fans and really seemed to buy in to the team-first mentality. When you're building a staff of any sort (I'm a teacher) there's always going to be some people (stubborn players/big headed players) who won't listen to the principal (head coach/gm), so you need to have some people on the staff (roster) who buy into the mentality of whatever is best for the team/organization (school). These people are the glue; they hold things together. Delly and Carrick could be those guys who come in and say "enough's enough! It's bigger than us, it's basketball!" and from the way Delly carries himself, I'm sure he'd be heard.
4. This might be unpopular, but I'd decline Andy's option and let him walk. He's old, he deserves to be on a contender, I'm just thinking it'd be best to either let him go or offer him a job as one of our assistants; start grooming him to be a defensive coordinator of sorts.
5. I'd let both Luol Deng and Spencer Hawes walk. Not only did Deng not want to be here, he kind of vocalized that sentiment before we even really had a chance to gel; chemistry and wins don't happen overnight unless you're on a successful team. When Sheed went to the Pistons, they were winning because they already had a solid core and were a playoff team. Spencer was a great get for us, but I can see him not asking for a pretty egregious contract. So unless he's willing to negotiate a reasonable deal where I'm only paying a little above what he was previously making, I'm showing him the foor.
5. Draft Day (JOHNNY MANZIEL!!) - Since Embiid's foot is all sorts of crazy and his back was already a red flag, I know the Bucks and 76ers won't want him; the Bucks owner just said last night (I believe) that they want a guy who could contribute now, not later. So, I'd trade the #1 overall pick to the 76ers so they could grab A-Wiggins (fuck that other side bitch we stay with it), since I'd be feeling like a nice guy. So in getting the #3 and #10 pick, we can still get who we perceive to be our guy in Embiid, and then there's the #10 pick.
6. Trade Dion to the Orlando Magic for the #12 pick.
- So now we have #3, #10, and #12.
- However, #3 was already used on Joel Embiid.
7. Package #10, Tristan, and Jarrett Jack for Al Horford.
8. With #12 I would make a run at Nik Stauskus.
9. #33 draft Thanasis Antetokounmpo.
10. Opening Day of Free Agency -- Max Deal for LeBron.
11. Offer a deal to Gordon Hayward.
12. Sign Big Baby Davis to reasonable deal.
13. Get Mo Mo Williams back!

Our Opening Night Lineup:

PG - Kyrie Irving/Williams/Delly
SG -Gordon Hayward/Miles/Stauskus
SF - LeBron James/Gee/Felix/Antetokounmpo
PF - Anthony Bennett/Embiid (although this will change when Embiid is healthy)/Davis
CE - Al Horford/Zeller

That would be a good team, IMHO

Sign LeBron and Melo.
Keep Waiters and Bennett.
Get Irving his max extension (let him earn it at least).
Draft Wiggins or Parker.
Make sure Bennett is getting 22+mpg, Irving and Wiggins gets 36mpg, and Waiters gets 36mpg over the regular season.

Irving(36)/Waiters(12)
Wiggins(24)/Waiters(24)
LeBron(36)/Wiggins(12)
Melo(36)/Bennett(12)
AV(20)/Zeller(18)/Bennett(10) <-- small-ball center-less lineup.

I don't want Blatt going Mike Brown with the lineups.. Set the starting lineup in the offseason and let the core develop chemistry and habits together. Don't swap pieces around like crazy. Play to win every game. No game should be considered "practice."

If possible, assuming all the above holds true, trade Zeller+Karasev+#33 and our own 2015 first round pick, for a rim protecting big man who has a serviceable jump shot and isn't over 30.

That's it...

p.s.
The reason I don't want to trade Waiters or even Bennett, is because the core of Irving/Waiters/Wiggins/Bennett has the potential to be a championship team itself in 7 years time. So when LeBron is retiring and Durant is past his prime, the Cavaliers don't disintegrate like the Heat might. In 4 years time I'd want those 4 players to be taking over most of the starting roles on the team, taking up most of the cap room, and allowing LeBron to take more of a Tim Duncan role (if he's here).

I concur that this is the perfect off season. But I wonder how we can keep Andy on the roster for sure. I guess we would have to find somebody to take Jack and TT as well. A shot blocking center would be very ideal if Melo had to play PF.

I might try to trade Waiters, TT, Jack, (picks) etc. for a good center. Even though I'd love to keep Waiters, not sure he would love being held to 6th man again, even though he would be getting minutes in your scenario.

Pipe dream:
1) Got Wiggins.
2) Trade for Kevin Love. (Jack, Varejao, Memphis 2015 first, Heat 2015 first, and Cavs 2015 second)
3) Assuming of course we get Love, with the losses of Jack, Varejao, Hawes, Deng, and CJ Miles, (last three, free agency) that leaves about $11.6 million.
At this point, the starting lineup is:
PG: Kyrie
SG: Dion
SF: Wiggins
PF: TT
C: Love

Bench: Delly, Karasev, Bennett, Zeller, Haywood, Hopson, Felix, Joe Harris, and Powell.

4) Sign UDFA (Patric Young is imo the best for the Cavs)
5) With about $11.6 million left, that puts the Cavs in a pickle, especially if targeting LeBron. So what do they have to do to bring back the King? Tell Dan to take one for the team and pay the Luxury Tax.

That changes the starting lineup:
PG: Kyrie
SG: Wiggins
SF: LeBron
PF: TT
C: Love

Bench: Delly, Dion, Bennett, Patric Young, Zeller, Haywood, Hopson, Felix, Joe Harris, and Powell.

6) Kyrie, LeBron, Love sign long-term.
7) Wiggins learns from the greatest mentor he could possible have, LeBron James. Along with Kyrie and Love, Wiggins is a long(er)-term future.
8) Win.

I don't mind the unrealistic scenario, I'm just trying to figure out who Hayward is and how he got on our bench.

Brendan Hayward, Bobcats center. Sorry, should have clarified.

I've seen something similar to this numerous times, and I want to clarify; We cannot sign LeBron with money that would take us over the cap.

It's also a dumb statement in another way because Gilbert has never shown a reluctance to pay the luxury tax.
