Locks: Nobody
Likely: Mike Trout
Relatively likely: Nelson Cruz, Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, Giancarlo Stanton
A long way to go, too early to tell: Pete Alonso, Cody Bellinger, Joey Gallo, Shohei Ohtani, Matt Olson
Way too early to tell: Juan Soto, Ronald Acuna Jr., Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Fernando Tatis Jr.
Long shots: Nolan Arenado, Freddie Freeman, J.D. Martinez
If Julio Franco stays in shape, he has a shot.

Pretty good list. I think Trout, Harper, and Cruz are similar likelihood. The former two will probably make it if their health permits, Cruz if he just holds on for likely 2 more years.

Stanton is somewhat close but he has trouble staying healthy and 1.75 years older than Trout with 21 HR more, not a great position relatively.

Machado is locked up in Petco, doubt he makes it but what he's done so far isn't much behind Harper (10 HRs back at a month older).

The "Pete Alonso, Cody Bellinger, Joey Gallo, Shohei Ohtani, Matt Olson" list generally got started too late; I don't see any of them making it, maybe Bellinger if he finds a way to do what he did before.

The "way to early to tell" bucket I'd rank around Stanton; these guys have a legit shot and health permitting could actually make it there.

Cruz may get there, but age isn't friendly to him in a sense...

A healthy Trout and a healthy Stanton would/should get there..Harper and Machado still have time as well...

Arenado and Freeman both need 240 area more for 500... Both need at least 10 years at 24 more HRs per season. Hard to project that...

Trout has missed too much time IMO. At some point during this contract he will have an injury that forces him to hang it up.

4 times in 11 years has Giancarlo Stanton played more than 140 games. I don't think he has enough play left to goose the stats with that level of games.

But he needs 170 more HRs at age 31... it's not unreasonable for him to get there, but you aren't wrong about him having to stay healthy to get it and that hasn't been there lately...

Off topic but Cy Young’s record of 511 wins is likely untouchable. Interesting article about his career:

This and Dimaggio's 56 game hit streak seem impossible. Cy Young's record in particular. Quite simply a pitcher would need 25 years of 20 win season to hit 500 wins.. But 20 years of 25 wins per season may be more doable lol.

I think Nelson Cruz is going to get there. Should have right around 50 to go by seasons end. Now what is impressive in Cruz's case IMO is his "late" start to his career. He only had 22 homers in his 1st four seasons and didn't start smashing them out of the park with regularity until his age 27-28 season. Impressive.

Living in Braves country, I’ve got friends who are huge braves fans. One of them sent an article making the case for Freddie Freeman, who is the same age as Stanton, and has roughly the same # of homers. I was a bit surprised to see him mentioned for the Hall because he’s been “really good” but not HoF good in my mind, but need to rethink that

Freddie is like 60ish HRs behind Stanton... Even if they are about the same age, that's about two seasons behind Stanton with averages and with probabilities of a healthy Stanton barely going to make it, Freddie is on the outside looking in at 500 in my mind. Now is Freeman a borderline Hall of Famer? Yes, You cannot deny it, but it will be hard for him to get to 500.
