Who do you start at the 3?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Drummond
Love
Okoro
KPJ
Sexton

KPJ is too good not to start. Garland hasn’t proven anything and shouldn’t start over Sexton who looked like an all star the last month. And we need okoro for defense. I never want to see cedi starting again. He’s not a starting player. And windler isn’t the defender we need for that lineup.

I could see a scenario where Nance starts at small forward, just to allow Drummond, Love, and Nance to all start. And early in the 1st quarter, Love or Drummond go to the bench and Nance shifts down to PF.

Nance should not see any SF minutes.

Opening night, Cedi starts. Okoro gets serious minutes (28-32) off the bench.

Eventually, Okoro takes over the starting spot and Cedi becomes one of the main leaders of the second unit.

He did work harder over the summer and hopefully improved, but I think his best fit is off the bench.

I would like KPJ and Cedi coming off the bench because I'd like to see them both work on their handling and playmaking. I'd like to see them as our 6 and 7th guys coming in together. Will KPJ be suspended for the start of the year? I expect so.

I do sort of imagine Cedi will start to begin with. If he can hit some corner 3's though, who knows. I am not sure he is a better NBA defender than Cedi day 1, but I do think he will be more disruptive.

I think the three guys realistically in the running are - Osman, Nance & Okoro. Ultimately, the Cavaliers would be pleased if Okoro talks the spot right away. Considering the off-season we've had, that might be a tall order for a kid coming in.

I'd love to see the Nance experiment first as I am pretty certain what Osman brings as a starting SF in this league. I have Okoro being the starter within 10 games if he doesn't look bewildered. I wouldn't mind the KPJ experiment there either but I believe his true value is at the shooting guard spot.

The Cavs have almost a full roster of legitimate NBA players.

Drummond
McGee
Love
Nance
Osman
Sexton
Garland
Porter
Exum
Dellavedova
Dotson

The only non-established players are Okoro, Windler (both first round picks who have yet to play), and Wade.

JBB is going to have a ton of flexibility in putting combinations on the floor. He can go big (McGee, Love, Nance, Porter, and Sexton) or small (Nance, Windler, Okoro, Sexton, Garland). If he wants defense he can go with McGee, Nance, Okoro, Dotson, and Delly.

This team if it comes together could be better than a lot of people think it Will be.
Deep roster lot of guys fighting for playing time.

So I don't think the starting lineup is settled at all. I think we see Sexton plus a couple of wings and a couple of forward center types..

I think this team will aim for equivalent wings.. Where defensively there is not much difference between the signs, and offensively Either wing can shoot at range or get to the rim..

Cedi will probably start at 3, but Okoru will get every chance to earn that spot.. Windler would have to be awesome to earn the start at three.

That said I think we will see lineups where KPJ is at three, and we will see Nance at the 3, but it will be situational..

They've set it up so there is a lot of competition at just about every position. Even at center there's competition - McGee started 130 games the last two seasons so it's not like they have Zizic backing up Dre. The competition for jobs and minutes will be especially intense at the 1, 2, and 3. Depending on the opponent you could see a Cavs player get 30 minutes one night and 12 the next.

I assume JBB will settle on a starting five and stay with it every game, but after the first 5-6 minutes the lineup could go anywhere depending on whether JBB wants to go small or big, emphasize defense or offense, or go with experience (McGee, Love, Osman, Delly, and Sexton) or youth (Drummond, Nance, Okoro, Porter, and Garland. He could go with one lineup if he wants to play fast and another if he wants to play more deliberately and stick with a half court offense.

If the Cavs get behind he can go with a 3-point shooting and scoring lineup (Drummond, Love, Windler, Sexton and Porter) or if they're ahead he can put a defensive lineup on the floor.

It's not like they have five undisputed starters, four rotational guys, and six garbage time guys.

I don't know how he's going to keep six guards happy with only 96 minutes a game to divvy up. Or three small forwards battling over 48 minutes.

specially against the likes of giannis and tatum
I remember how he defended Robinson during the Miami game. Robinson was shooting lights out in the first half but Nance put a clamp on him in the 2nd. He also punished him offensively by posting him up time and time again. Cavs won that game.

Nance has definitely improved as a Cav. Better shooter, better mobility than he was a Laker. He can be a SF for short periods of time especially when Bickerstaff deploys his uber big lineup against small ball.

I'll say Windler just for fun. He would help prevent some stagnation. Always moving and drawn like a magnet to the open spot on the floor. He has 3 things he does pass, drive, or shoot and then run to the most open spot.
