Who is the greatest in your generation?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He said he didn’t become a baseball junkie until 2013. He missed Pujols’s prime. He only caught the Angels years.

My bad. I guess i didnt read his post thoroughly enough. It would be Miggy for him no doubt.

Mariano Rivera as well. Hated hearing that entrance music against us. But man was it awesome the few times he blew saves against us.

Another name to add during his early stretch in the MLB, Ichiro
He was great, but I can’t include him in my group because at the same time he was hitting .325, Pujols was also doing that while walking a ton more, and hitting for way more power.

Hitter: Manny Ramirez <-- love the story that he'd purposefully swing wildly at a pitch to bait the pitcher into throwing it again... then he'd crush it.

Pitcher: Greg Maddux / Pedro. Basically you could write down an L when you saw these guys on the schedule.

Fielder: Omar Vizquel <-- the turn-around-back-to-the-ball pop fly catch was one of the most surprising / fun fielding techniques I've ever seen.

All Around: Kenny Lofton <-- pure excitement. Every option was on the table when he was at the plate, no ball was out of his range in the field. And on the base paths... Game 6, ALCS, Randy Johnson, wild pitch... scores from 2nd. My favorite baseball memory.

Can also add how he got on with an infield single that 99% of players would have been out and then stole second. There is a YouTube video of it and every once in a while I will watch it and am amazed every time.

Link?

Lofton should really be in the Hall of Fame. Hopefully he can somehow get added down the line, voters messed up not putting him in.

My two favorite players growing up were Tony Gwynn and Kirby Puckett. Not sure they were the best of the era but were one of a kind players that you looked forward to watching back in the game of the week games if they were on TV.
Maybe it is just me but baseball seemed much more popular with the younger generation in the late 80s. Very few of my students when I do a survey at the start of the school year say they watch or follow baseball. NFL and NBA are always mentioned though. There are several reasons for this, but I don’t think they promote the players like the NFL and NBA do.

Take a peak at Tony Gwynn’s BA over his career the guy simply was amazing.

Love the responses guys. No wrong answers. There has been so many remarkable baseball players in my thirty years of breathing

An all time great that:

Led the league in dWAR for 5 seasons
Made the ASG 19 times
Crushed Tribe pitching in the '96 and '97 playoffs
Played a ton of games:
Etc., etc.

Cal Ripken Jr.

Where do you guys put Robbie Alomar on this list? In the conversation? You talk about the complete package. And clutch as anybody. He broke our hearts in 96. Didnt he also hit some huge HRs in Torontos WS season? Fielding, hitting, hitting for power, speed, one of the first guys it seems they used the title, 5-tool player for.
