Outside linebacker Kamerion Wimbley is making strides, but he isn't making news.

For the first time in recent memory, the play of a Browns first-round draft pick isn't being studied and critiqued to the nth degree in the first week of training camp. His name isn't the topic of the day on a continual basis on the local sports shows.

But don't blame Wimbley. The No. 13 overall selection from Florida State is flying under the radar screen because of all the other noteworthy things that have happened since camp opened. He's been blocked out.

For instance, Pro Bowl center LeCharles Bentley suffered a season-ending knee injury on the second day of camp. The next day, right tackle Ryan Tucker, maybe the club's best offensive lineman the last several years, walked off the field with knee problems. That caused everyone to gasp.

Then the following day, wide receiver Braylon Edwards, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2005 draft, added some much-needed positive vibes when he surprisingly returned to the practice field before anyone thought he would. He suffered a season-ending knee injury late last season.

Other than that, nothing has happened. It's been a ho-hum camp.

Yeah, right.

Romeo has really been trying to give Wimbley every opportunity to start at OLB.

Wimbley is great at rushing the ball, but is still weak and learning how to move away from the ball (covering somebody). Good thing he has speed.

At practice today, he blew past Shaffer and sacked the QB (Not a real sack cause they can’t tackle the QB in camp). Then he tried for a second time and Shaffer took him down. Lol, the rookie will learn.

He is coming along very nicely. The good thing is that he is getting the opportunity to win the position, because Romeo is not know on being so high on rookies.

The job is his to lose.

I always cringe at these tweener types that they try and convert to a different position than they played in college. Hope it works but more often than not it flops.

Props smooth...you are really doing a good job posting more threads.

Im anxious to see what this kid can do, hopefully he can come in right away and make a big impact for our defense, cause we need it..

The tweener types were the ones who worked most effectively in Romeo's system in New England. I think there were two good reasons for that.

(1) These guys are not one-dimensional. Physically...the good tweeners have a combo of speed and strength. They tend to be above- avg but not exceptional at either one. The system makes up for anything they lack.

(2) The tweeners that Savage and Romeo pick are going to be extremely hard workers. The type of guys who know that they cant get by on athleticism alone. They dont take anything for granted. They practice hard, work hard and tend to be smart guys with a team-first mindset.

Tweeners are perfect for the 3-4 imo.
