The Cleveland Cavaliers select ... uhh ....

I got no clue. That's way down in the la la land of "no freakin' clue" for me.

Maybe I'll get a poll set up that doesn't include Jim Chones at some point.

But who's got the guts to go out on a limb right now and predict who the Cavs pick???

anybody 6'8 is a win for me don't care who

I know it seems weird to say but the Cavs really need to hit on someone here…

This is where the Heat took Bam…. Certainly not suggesting there’s a Bam here, but man I wanna see this team start to select later in the draft and really develop some rotational talent like the Celtics and Heat and Warriors and Raptors and Grizzlies do….

We already have the core pieces in place… Elite guard, and soon to be elite big…No more waisting picks on the Dylan Windler’s of the world later in the draft… Time to build a deep roster with players that will contribute to what should be a sooner than later eastern conference finals contender…

Looking forward to this selection actually…

Please, no one undersized for whatever position they're supposed to play. And - key point here - don't draft anyone that refuses to be measured and you aren't certain isn't some minimum qualifying height for their position. If they aren't being measured, they obviously think their height is a problem.

Side note: can someone explain to me how we aren't certain of player heights anymore? It seems crazy to me that teams are surprised to learn the player they drafted is now 2 inches shorter than they thought on draft night. How is that possible?

The worst thing that could happen is the Cavs get pigeonholed into drafting a particular position (ie drafting for need) and bypass better prospects. With a pick that low you have to be prepared that someone could unexpectedly fall to you and just take the best player available, regardless of position. That said, here's a short list of players the Cavs will likely choose from among:

PG- Washington, Chandler
SG- Mathurin, Daniels, Davis, Agbaji, Branham
SF- Eason, Dieng, Brown
PF- Sochan
C- Duren, Williams

It started and occurred during the pandemic because visits and travel were so limited. Schools wanted to keep favor with players for recruitment purposes, so they parroted whatever height the players' camps reported.

It should be just about over, if not entirely, now that things are normalizing.

Totally agree but this draft is chock full of bigger wings.
I would be disappointed if they draft any prospect who doesn't measure at least 6'-6". Unlike last year this team has core pieces identified moving forward. Let's give them the best chance to win by drafting a wing who might somewhat slow down the Tatums, Browns, and Butler type wings in the EC. I like Stevens alot on this roster but they need to add another guy with a higher ceiling at the position. Okoro just gets swallowed up by bigger wing players.

To answer the question at hand…I have a gut feeling we end up with Jovic

Players what go to the combine get measured without shoes and with shoes. Everyone else can say whatever they want.

Once a player gets into the league, the player's agents seem to have an effect on what teams report.

For example, Carlos Boozer & Kevin Love were measured as 6' 7.75" in the draft combine
But were frequently listed as 6'10" during parts of their careers because 6"10 guys get paid at PF, while 6'8" guys not so much.

Really though, the top of a player's head doesn't really indicate "how big" a guy a guy can be in the NBA. Wingspan, standing reach, leaping, and understanding positioning and leverage can be much more important.

The other part of it is measuring in shoes vs without shoes. NBA teams report heights without shoes when players come to camp. It's just weird they measure players in shoes at the combine, they should try to standardize everything one way or the other.

Guys that want to add some extra height can wear shoes with thick soles during the measurements.

The NBA made the change for teams to report actual heights without shoes at camp every year. They did this like 3 years ago I think.

I’m ok with a gamble here.

If they feel the upside, work ethic, and mental stability is there go for it.

We all know they will draft someone over 6’5”. So i fully expect them to do some deep dives into their daily habits/family/motivations.

I’d put money on a gym rat.
