Re: Would You Like To See RCF Expand It's Browns Coverage?

I like the idea of an incremental expansion. For instance, giving the Browns discussion its own forum plus subforums (game day threads, trade/free-agency forum /etc.) makes sense. www.realbrownsfans.com appears to be an available domain name if that's of interest for a front page. I don't have strong feelings one way or another on a Browns-related front page. I like the current setup of having all RCF forums visible on one page and would suggest retaining that layout even if there is some expansion in forums. Very convenient the way it is now. I woudn't want them to be separated.

I'm not worried about any expansion of Browns coverage diluting Cavs coverage, since we have so many members (and MODS) dedicated to the Cavs. It would more about better supporting the Browns fans who visit these forums and attracting new ones. They could ignore the Cavs forum. If they act out for whatever reason on the Cavs forum, we would deal with it. More moderation in the Browns forum may be necessary if we get an influx of terrible posters -- diluting the quality of what is posted in the Browns forums now is the one concern I have. The Browns forum may not see as much traffic as it could but the current quality is pretty fantastic thanks to Smooth, cdt, and many other regulars.

Expanding Browns coverage could also act as a test run in terms of doing the same for the Indians/etc.

I recognize the advantages/disadvantages related to changing the overall site name. I prefer the current name since it attracts new posters to talk about the Cavs, and it prioritizes them as the site has done since its formation.

Actually, as it turns out, there is a way on vBulletin, not sure if it's a mod or just general coding, where you can have a "page 2" of the forums. Best example I can give is here:
http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/

All the hockey-related sections are on page 1, then if you hit page 2...
http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/index.php?page=2

You get all the other sports, and misc discussion.

Not sure if 2 pages is the limit, and I would assume you can change it to say "Browns Page" "Cavs Page" "Indians Page".

Option #5 - Expand/Modify the NCAA Section

- Make it "NCAA Discussion" instead of specific to Ohio State
- Create extra-subforums for MAC Football, MAC basketball, General NCAA Basketball, and General NCAA Football

I get that OSU is the most popular program in the state, but we have a good amount of MAC grads/fans too. It would be great to see that recognized by the RCF staff.

Thank you for your consideration and all that you do in providing this site to us!

So completely get rid of OSU coverage in favor of general/MAC?

This sounds like the most reasonable idea.

I think the biggest key will be having smart mods who know their football, like Smooth, keeping a tight grip on making sure the football talk is as good as the basketball talk. Would be awesome if we became known for having the smartest sports talk in general, and not just limited to the NBA.

And honestly (not to toot our own horn too much) but if we brought in enough Browns traffic, it might get at least a few more eyeballs on the Cavs that are usually focused completely on the Browns.

Re-read the post. I said to "Create extra-subforums"

Never did I say to get rid of OSU coverage. Just change the Forum to General NCAA Discussion, keep the OSU sub-forums, and add the new sub-forums.

Pyro and Damage should create a site called jumpingthegun.com where they react with outrage to various news stories and posts before they have enough information to actually make a judgment on the topic.

THREE KILLED IN IRELAND BUS BOMBING

Damage: This was foretold in Batman! LIBOR!!!!

Pyro: You like Ireland? You probably hate Tom Hamilton too. Loser.

Are you saying we are the Jon Hein and Gary Dell'Abate of RCF?

RCF Front Office

Announcements - Board Information and Updates
Ask the Staff - Questions regarding the site? Ask them here and a staff member will do their best to help you out.
Game Preview Team - Discuss, plan, create game threads for game nights. Since we'd be expanding coverage in my book to both the Browns and the Indians, I think this section would have to evolve a bit to also include development of at least the Browns threads. Indians series threads are extremely numerous and would probably take up a ton of room in there. Corey and myself (and other odds and ends) really wouldn't need to work on thread development in here as they typically are not as high-profile as what would be expected of a Cavaliers/Browns game thread.
Staff Forum - No clue what goes on in here - or where it even is, but I guess it would fit alright here.

Cleveland Cavaliers Basketball

Cavs Talk - General Cleveland Cavaliers Discussion
Cavs Game Day - Live Game Chats and Updates
Trades, Free Agency, and the Draft - Play Grant's advocate. Discuss your very own trade ideas, or trades that you would like the organization to make.
Around the NBA - Latest NBA news, rumors and controversies.

Cleveland Indians Baseball

Tribe Talk - General Cleveland Indians Discussion
Tribe Game Day - Live Game Chats and Updates I'd assume we'd want to keep our "by the series" setup we currently have. 162 game threads seems unnecessary, especially since most of them would be pressed to get more than one page.
Around the MLB - Latest MLB news, rumors, and controversies.

I didn't include a Trade, FA, and Draft subforum for the Tribe because nobody really cares about the MLB Draft (not as much as the NBA/NFL), Free Agency was easily handled in this season's offseason thread, and trades really aren't very high-profile or can just be handled by a thread in Tribe Talk.

Cleveland Browns Football

Browns Talk - General Cleveland Browns Discussion
Browns Game Day - Live Game Chats and Updates
Trades, Free Agency, and the Draft - Trading, potential Free Agent pickups, and the NFL Draft can be discussed here.
Around the NFL - Latest NFL news, rumors, and controversies.

General Sports Dicussion

NHL - Discuss the NHL here.
NCAA Football - Discuss NCAA Football and Bowl Games here.
NCAA Basketball - Discuss NCAA Basketball and March Madness here.

People who know of RCF already know the bolded part is true.

I really dont see it as necessary. There really isn't much to discuss when it comes to NFL besides the game day and offseason threads. Transactions happen rarely throughout the season so a trades/draft section would be nearly useless. Also, it's not like the Cavs where you have extensive discussions about individual players.

What? This is completely wrong....

Ok, so besides game threads (20 times a year), a draft thread (1 time a year), and a free agency thread (1 time a year), what else is there? Do you really think there will be 400 page discussion about Paul Kruger like there is about Dion Waiters? Idk, maybe I am just not that big of a football guy to understand, but I really don't see there being that much of a use.

Other forums dedicated to the Browns have attracted similar traffic to RCF: one of the popular ones has generated more than 75,000 threads and close to 2 million posts. And this is during a stretch where they have only made the playoffs once in a long time. The threads may not all be dedicated to individual players (although hundreds are usually devoted to the revolving QB situation) but there is plenty to discuss during the season and during the off-season.
