WTF is going on with the Dolphins?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Oh, there's absolutely latent homosexuality in a lot of male interaction. ESPECIALLY in sports.

The organization of the NFL wants to abolish this behavior.. They want Martin to be able to play and they want guys like Incognito to be gone.

The reality of the NFL looks at Martin as a bitch and snitch. They feel for Incognito and his taste for expensive dinners and vacations.

I don't think they FEEL for him. I think they just either enjoy the hazing in a way or they come to accept it because it's part of the atmosphere.

Wow.........

[Editor's note: On Thursday night, lawyer David Cornwell issued a statement on behalf of Dolphins tackle Jonathan Martin. The full text of the statement appears below.]

Jonathan Martin’s toughness is not at issue. Jonathan has started every game with the Miami Dolphins since he was drafted in 2012. At Stanford, he was the anchor for Jim Harbaugh’s “smash mouth” brand of football and he protected Andrew Luck’s blind side.

The issue is Jonathan’s treatment by his teammates. Jonathan endured harassment that went far beyond the traditional locker room hazing. For the entire season-and-a-half that he was with the Dolphins, he attempted to befriend the same teammates who subjected him to the abuse with the hope that doing so would end the harassment. This is a textbook reaction of victims of bullying. Despite these efforts, the taunting continued. Beyond the well-publicized voice mail with its racial epithet, Jonathan endured a malicious physical attack on him by a teammate, and daily vulgar comments such as the quote at the bottom. These facts are not in dispute.

Eventually, Jonathan made a difficult choice. Despite his love for football, Jonathan left the Dolphins. Jonathan looks forward to getting back to playing football. In the meantime, he will cooperate fully with the NFL investigation.

Quote from teammate: “We are going to run train on your sister. . . . She loves me. I am going to f–k her without a condom and c– in her c—.”

What do we think the second "c" stands for?

If you haven't read the Grantland article "Man Up" yet, you are missing a great take. Four current or former NFL players committed suicide in the past calendar year. Its time to put aside some of the faux-tough act which has been a tradition in sports and allow a player to admit he needs mental help.

I do think that one lasting impact from this I'd like to see is stiff penalties for veterans treating rookies like an ATM card. This is beyond "boys will be boys.". When you are jacking a guy for over $5,000 bucks at a time, that isn't just hazing its grand larceny.

Pacman Jones was once hazed by a veteran and he responded: "I'll kill you". The guy never bothered him again.

Dustin Fox said he used to buy the team donuts as part of his rookie hazing. A teammate tried to take it a little too far by trying to get him to pay 10k for something and he told him no.

I think this is perfectly equated to antics that occur between opposing fans at sporting events. Sure trash talking is fine. Its part of the atmosphere. But many people take it way too far. Personal attacks about peoples families and acts of violence are ridiculous.

I would always go through the proper authorities in the event of an altercation. I appluad Martin for his actions. If you insinuate that he is a pussy or somehow less of a man, then you're an idiot. There is no need to threaten someone with violence or murder. If you feel there is, then you need to rethink your mindset.

I have traveled to many away games and have never had an issue with opposing fans. The reason is I don't feel the need to have a dick measuring contest with a bunch of drunk assholes. I am respectful and talk trash with the level headed fans that go to enjoy the game. The fans that have ego problems... I just ignore them.

Unfortunately for Martin he couldn't just ignore them so he took the best possible avenue. Through the proper authorities whose job it is to provide a safe working environment. Could he have had a dick measuring contest with Incognito? Sure, but that could have ended terribly. Bad decisions get made when someone feels like they are backed in the corner with no escape.
