WWE/NXT/AEW/NJPW Thread

That's absurd to learn about, obviously the best time to be a wrestling fan was yesteryear but AEW is trying and maybe eventually goes toe to toe.

I think AEW is a long way off from capturing the magic that was the Attitude Era, but at least it's interesting. Main roster WWE has been almost entirely trash for a decade or more. They've occasionally had their moments, but half the time it was when the audience outright rebelled and forced them to pivot, like the YES movement with Daniel Bryan, when the entire crowd cheered like hell when Becky Lynch turned heel and annihilated Charlotte, or when the crowd randomly latched on to Kofi as a sort of "you've been doing good work forever and deserve it" thing.

The problem I see with WWE now is that they don't seem capable of pushing more than a couple of people at a time on either brand. They're doing the Roman Reigns thing right now, and it's finally working after like seven years, but no one else matters unless they're feuding with Roman. And that's the problem. There are no compelling midcard feuds. The tag divisions are a joke. They don't have enough female talent to cover two shows with two different belts. The feuds, even the few that work, go on for so fucking long that it's impossible to maintain interest. It's just not a good product.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's just toying with fans.

I don't know man. That roster is massive, they need more television time if they intend to keep people happy. Wyatt is already rumored to be coming on after his non-compete clause.

I imagine they’d just start trimming people from the bottom of the roster.

I think this has been brought up before:

AEW has a massive roster to give their talents time off from a horrible work schedule. Some guys work more, but for others it allows them to do other things/shows/take time so they don't kill their bodies.

I'll honestly never understand why WWE hasn't mandated two to three months off a year for their talent. It wouldn't have to necessarily be all at once, but if you give guys some legit time off every year, not only do you potentially lengthen their careers, but you keep them more fresh for the fans as well.

With the way their roster ballooned the past 3 or 4 years; you'd assume it was a given. Give guys time to refresh once a year for a month or so, then have a few weeks off throughout where they only do pre-taped segments or show up for the main shows/PPVs.

Let them have their twitches & other streams of revenue to offset any off time they had.

AEW does it right. Let guys cool off, let guys do the road shows, rotate main event players. Their model just works.

Mox and Brian Pillman Jr. sent the Cincy crowd home singing the skyline chili jingle.

The AEW/WWE rivalry is just a work. No, I’m not saying they have a partnership of anything, but their goal is undoubtedly to co-exist.

There’s too much talent for one company to feature. There needs to be multiple companies with programming throughout the week to get these guys proper TV time.

As much as I’m loving the AEW product right now, there is still an extensive list of talented athletes on the WWE roster, and not nearly enough room in AEW for all of them.

AEW is still young and in the talent acquisition phase, but eventually they’ll get to the point where they have to trim the fat, possibly expand programming, and inevitably, they’ll still have talented guys that are being underutilized.

My hope is that WWE sees the success AEW is having with their booking, promos, and production-style, and they take some notes to improve their product. Who wouldn’t want to see Seth Rollins, Matt Riddle, Randy Orton, Sami Zayn, Pete Dunne, WALTER, AJ Styles, Ricochet, or any other talented guy be given the freedom to blow the roof off in a 25-30 minute match instead of the 10-15 minute cookie cutter events they’re currently putting on?

AEW does a great job making every match and feud feel important. WWE does too much throwaway stuff that would make you think they’re pressed for time when they actually have 7 hours of primetime TV each week to tell their stories.

Gargano's contract is up in December and KO's contract ends in January.

Think Gargano will see the writing on the wall that Vince will never push him. He would need crowd support on the level of Bryan Danielson.

I feel more confident about KO leaving. He's done it all in WWE, could do the same upper midcard role in AEW, and would probably make similar money too. Not to mention his friends are there, creative control, and probably a lighter schedule.

I was at a small party on Saturday night and one of the guys there works for WWE. He confirmed that WWE is attempting to pivot and focus on bigger guys in order to be a contrast to AEW.

I'm not sure it's going to work, because talent matters in wrestling and a lot of big guys just don't have it. See: Jinder Mahal.

What an ass backwards way of thinking. Last time Vince had competition it wasn't "big" guys that ended it and kept him afloat. It was talkers and entertainment.

They should pivot to guys who are more entertaining. I don't nor will I ever watch WWE for the wrestling. They need to lean full into their storylines and story telling.

Let AEW be the work rate company. The problem, of course, is that WWE put time and effort into turning guys like KO, Cole, Danielson, Punk and others into massive stars who can be more than just work rate guys, and now AEW is profiting off of it. They have absolutely created their own monster, and I'm here for it.
