May 12, 2005 - The third in the team-based outdoor military first-person shooter, Ghost Recon 3 brings the Clancy squad back to urban environments, this time in Mexico City, displaying an enormous jump in graphic quality and believability.

Ubisoft's game jumps into the future, to 2013 to be exact. Eight years from now, the U.S. Army will implement the Integrated Warfighter System (IWS), evolving the modern soldier with advanced weapon systems, satellite communication devices, and "enhanced survivability" (whatever that might mean). The IWS confronts enemies head-on, and now they're being tested on the battlefield. These futuristic soldiers are based on actual U.S. Army research, thus giving the gamers a realistic view of how future wars will be fought.

Using an entirely new software engine, Ubisoft's Ghost Recon 3 takes advantage of Microsoft's Xbox 360 with impressive textures, lighting and particle effects, multi-windowing and top-notch physics. The video we witnessed was the same rolling footage we saw at Ubisoft's pre-e3 day about a month ago, meaning it was pre-captured, including both real action and scripted cutscenes.

The game looks incredible from a visual standpoint. The soldiers walked with smooth barely noticeable motion-captured movement, their bodily actions looking less and less like polygonal puppets and more and more like real human beings. The scrambled, dove under cover, crouched, and strained, wielded guns and shot enemies, and all with superb and believable motion. The soldier gear was more detailed, the fatigues was better textured and more lifelike, showing wrinkles and creases, and the facial detail on each soldier showed off a much more believable human expressions.
