Your 2019 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Right, the only other option (other than trade) would be swapping him with Daniel Johnson. And while Johnson might be a better option who won't strike out at alarming rates, not sure if it makes much sense to swap out Bradley for a guy with 0 MLB plate appearances.
I wonder what the plan is with Daniel Johnson at the moment. He's sort of a similar player to Greg Allen, if they do send Bradley down he can shove Bauers over to 1B I guess, and the outfield will get a defensive upgrade. I'd give him a little more time at AAA personally based off the little I know.

Because it puts the best talent on the field and gives you the best chance of winning.

(If Daniel Johnson pays off, which I think he will)

I like Daniel Johnson a lot but he isn't anymore ready than Bobby Bradley was.

I get that DJ is the flavor of the week right now, and deservedly so, but let's pump the brakes a little.

There's zero reason to rush him to the bigs.

Johnson is very different to Allen as a prospect, as Johnson has raw power and a 70 arm, where Allen’s value is with his glove and on the base paths.

Hasn't been hitting for much power and at the moment he isn't showing it in AAA with the juiced balls (yes he did make strides at AA though with those 10 HR). If he's able to tap into raw power now then he probably gets called up. Johnson is potentially faster than Allen and arm/glove are different pieces of the same package. Right now they'd do similar things probably. Until he proves a large edge over Allen though, might as well just have Allen on the bench while Johnson continues to develop.

You could compare him to Mercado but Mercado had over 600 PA at AAA and Johnson is only at 200. We know how the Indians like to take their time.

Tito just said he doesn't want to make Bobby Bradley an everyday DH so why would he want to do that to Jake Bauers?

As the 25 currently stands, isn't DH where Bauers is going to find himself more often than not?

Where does Johnson fit?

Naquin, Bauers and Mercado all playing well and need consistent playing time. Luplow is the platoon and doing his job well. Allen is the extra guy-- and nobody is gonna stunt Johnson's development by making him an extra OF.

I think this sets up the roster very well for a Domingo Santana or someone similar.

Pretty much it sounds like, if we are going to have another bat, it will be a veteran who is a DH style of guy, not a young guy who we want a lot of ABs to/who is still developing.

Put Johnson everyday in one corner, let Bauers DH.

People are forgetting Bauers is younger than Johnson, so why would we do something that we don't want to do to Johnson to Bauers?

DH will be rotated, so on paper Bauers may end up at DH more than the others, but Francona will give guys days off in the field going forward so we will see DH rotate between guys as well. Santana will get a DH day a week. Luplow and Freeman will end up getting some days at DH as well. I feel it will be like everyone will have a DH day a week, while then everyone else fills in around them.

I guess we can disagree on this. I think Bradley's high K% is a sign that he's going to struggle. I think Johnson's lower K% is a good sign for him. He might be the flavor of the week, but I've been pimping him nearly all season.

He's also 24 already. He's older than both Bauers and Bradley. Five seasons in the minors, over 2200 plate appearances. Currently OPS'ing .925 at AAA this season in over 200 PA's. It's not exactly a rush job to bring him up this year. I don't know where you'd get that idea.

I don't see the similarity. Greg Allen's bat has never been close to what Daniel Johnson has done this year. Regarding the Mercado comparison further down the thread, I think Mercado has a much higher ceiling than Johnson. Mercado's athletic profile is something I love.

What are you talking about (seriously, it's unclear. You're quoting a post that said put Johnson in the OF and Bauers at DH)? I want to play Johnson everyday in a corner OF spot because he's a better outfielder than Jake Bauers.

His K and BB rates would suggest otherwise, in addition to his speed and defense.

Slotting him into LF vs RHP, Bauers getting 2-3 starts a week at 1B/DH.

It’s not like Luplow can play everyday, nor is their anyone else worthy of the DH role.

Doesn’t really make sense NOT to have either he or Bradley come up and get meaningful time.

I guess to make my statement clear, personally I feel they do not Bauers to only be playing DH, which if we bring up Johnson, Bauers will be moved to a DH role pretty much everyday. They want Bauers to develop in the field especially since he is one of the youngest players in MLB right now.

Don't get me wrong, I am not against bringing up Johnson, but with the fact we have a full 40 man roster and 3 guys who may be back this season in Kluber, Salazar and Zimmer on the 60 Day DL, plus the fact he hasn't hit the ABs the Indians organization likes a player to be at for AAA, there is a good probability right now he won't be called up.

Also Johnson is a better prospect than Allen, but Allen since his last call up is batting over .400 in his limited role as the 4th OF and Luplow is doing well in his platoon, I don't see how Johnson fits in especially since he bats from the left side. They truly need another RH in the lineup. I cannot see the Indians FO staying put with this lineup, even if they aren't going to be heavy buyers, I see them going out and getting a veteran rental, Howie Kendrick type of guy, or a player a couple years of control, Domingo Santana, to fill out the lineup. I know AZ_ said something about them not really being buyers right now, but its hard to believe they don't try and find another RH bat before the deadline to be the DH. With the deadline being the 31st, I don't see Johnson being called up before then.

Now if Aug 1st comes around, and we didn't acquire a bat, then I can see Johnson being called up to be mixed in, since he would have a fair amount of AAA ABs and we then will try another bat at the pros, but for now, I see us getting a RH bat, and that makes absolutely no room for Johnson at the pro team. This is what I believe and feel they will do going forward.

I actually see Haase getting the call up before Johnson, mostly because Haase can hit from the right side and they may have Perez in the lineup everyday cause of the way he is hitting. Not ideal at the end of the day, but I don't see the FO rushing Johnson before they have to bring him up. Though I dont feel they will go this route just yet, I just don't see Johnson being called up anytime soon.

"I feel they want x" just sets up such a crappy discussion.

Discuss what you think makes the team better. You guessing what you think the organization might want to do makes for a pointless topic. There's nothing to back it up.
