Your 2019 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So only positive, bullshit posts about the Indians, when if the season ended today they would not make the playoffs .. I guess this is the Fox News baseball forum... Would hate to upset anyone...

I have absolutely no issue with positive/negative thoughts about the team.

Have I ever said anything to the contrary?

I definitely don’t watch games. Still hoping someone starts a gofundme page for doing 4 Indians games in 7 days in NYC. Once again this series is critical. Indians have to beat up on the AAAA teams of baseball.

This new moderation has made a world of difference.

I know right?
It’s been great seeing a mix of incredibly informational posts plus people having fun at the same time. With literally zero bullying. Can’t ask for more.
In retrospect... @Derek got piled on there a little bit. Sorry guy. Hope you aren’t the one running the sm account...

Some off-topic stuff in sports threads is okay, and has always been okay at RCF. Especially if it is between games, and if there isn't much being actively discussed in the thread at the time.

But at the same time, it does suck if some posters are trying to have a legitimate discussion within a sports related thread, and some other guys want to talk about other crap that has nothing to do with the purpose of the thread. It did get out of hand here, and fast.I don't want to have to be dick and micromanage this, because that's inevitably going to make someone unhappy and lead to pissed-off RCFer's, and I'd really prefer to avoid that. At the same time...I've asked some of the long-timers here not to bully others for having a dissenting opinion that may not be as analytically sound, and in return, they should be able to have a thread that isn't cluttered with off-topic stuff.

We all have to give a bit to get along.

I'd much prefer if people would exercise their own discretion as to when they drift off topic, and not let it dominate a thread that is supposed to be there for a different reason. And I'd ask the other guys who just want to talk sports to have a little bit of tolerance if the thread is otherwise slow, and the off-topic banter is limited to just a joke or two. But I'm not going to put up with off-topic banter that is just disguised trolling. And you know who you are.

Happy to PM if anyone wants to discuss this, or if you want an open discussion, we can go to the moderation thread I opened.

Also, the back and forth squabbling accomplishes nothing other than to take a really small problem, and make it much bigger. So I'm removing that. Last time I'm going to be this nice.

Just a suggestion...when these squabbles are public, nobody backs down and they get out of hand. If you guys would perhaps try to PM each other in a friendly manner to resolve differences, that might help. Or let me know if that isn't working. But reading this kind of back and forth is just going to discourage a lot of other posters who just want to talk baseball from participating at all because it looks like too much b.s..

Just to add something, we have the thread David started Or we can make a sticky thread of the Cleveland Indians off topic thread where we can post the funny stuff while keeping the legit threads clear of the really off topic posts as well. I do like some of the funny posts but I get they can go overboard

I'll consider that -- the OT stuff got out of hand too fast on here today. We do have an OT forum, though.

Thing is...a couple of funny things or a joke in a sports thread is okay. We don't want to suck the fun out of everything. But people have to exercise some real self-restraint too.

They sure don't look the same when they arent playing shit teams, not to give credence to arguments regarding their sos

It always feels worse than it really is when the team loses, and better than it really is when the team wins.

Indians record against AL Teams...

.460 or lower (Seattle, Detroit, KC, Baltimore, Toronto, White Sox): 5-1, 12-1, 10-6, 4-3, 6-1, 5-7 = 42-19 (.689)
.460 through .580 (Angels, Rangers, Red Sox): 3-0, 4-3, 3-3 = 10-6 (.625)
Wild Card Teams (Rays and A's): 1-3, 1-5 = 2-8 (.200)
Division Leaders (Yankess, Twins, Astros): 4-3, 7-6, 3-4, = 14-13 (.518)

The Rays and A's series really stand out. They were all played May 10-26, when we were injured and a pretty bad team being kept afloat by great pitching and Carlos Santana.

We've played the three division leaders--the three best teams in the league (Yankees, Twins, Astros) to a record above .500. That's a win in my book.

I wish we were running away with the division and didn't have to play a wild card game, but that doesn't look like it's in the cards this year. But let's put this year into perspective. We basically lost Kluber and Cookie for the year. We traded away Bauer. We had injuries to Clevinger and most of our starting pitching depth. Frankie was hurt to start the year. Our MVP candidate from last year, Jose, was garbage for half of this season. Hand is struggling. So many things have gone wrong, but I still expect us to make the playoffs.

Are we the best team in the league this year? Hell no. But we weren't in 2016 either. Our rotation was Kluber, some of Bauer's fingers, Josh Tomlin and Ryan Merritt. Just get to the postseason in the MLB and you have a chance.

But nobody looks as good when they’re not playing shit teams.

Houston just went 2-5 against Oakland and the White Sox before playing the Tigers. The Yankees split with the Indians and just got swept by Oakland. The Twins just lost 2 of 3 to the White Sox.

Holy overreaction to sweep.

The Indians have their best record after 128 games since 1999. Sucks they’re in a playoff dog fight but they’ve had a hell of a season despite dealing with horrible injury circumstances all year long.

Don't underestimate the dominance of Andrew Miller, Cody Allen, and some of the good from Shaw. We don't have any of that 2016 bullpen 1-2 punch. Yeah it's cool saying just get in, but our current pitching isn't magical. Andrew Miller could spawn in the 5th and get the starter out of trouble, then shut out the 6th. We are who we are right now, the 6th best team in the AL.
