Your 2019 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Oh I know, but it looks like to me, Francona did back off in pitching him in September in some ways to begin with

I don't really think this is Tito easing his workload per se, the Indians just haven't been in many save situations lately.

Oh I know, but it looks like to me, Francona did back off in pitching him in September in some ways to begin with, so my guess in hindsight would have been the Sept 4th outing, but hindsight is always 20/20 and at that time, coming off of 4 successful outings, one bad one isn't a red flag. Going by his outing sheet, the Aug 11th, 12th, 18th and 21st werent good outings, so maybe if we could have, got him extra rest after that in some ways, but he did come back numbers wise good after that, so even by that, there wasn't a time to really say, hey, we are going to put ya on the DL to rest your arm in a sense, which maybe is really what he needed in the end was to get some rest in that arm.

Let me just say, I don't know what the right answer is, but it's a definite gray area.

Personally, from a fan's perspective, I'm thinking about getting him checked out after his 4th straight poor appearance on 8/21. However, if he says he feels 100% fine, where do you go from there?

His velocity was actually fine in his blow ups. It didn't start to drop until his subsequent clean appearances that followed.

Given that his MRI came back clean, my guess is that he tinkered with his mechanics after a few poor performances, and lost some velocity as a result.

True, but Hand usually gets into game at least every 4th game regardless of the score, to keep him sharp and the only point of the season he didn't was a 6 day lay off at the end of Aug/Begin of Sept. May have been a coincidence, but at no other time this season did Hand get more than 4 days off, and there is examples of games throughout the season where he got in at least every 4 days in a sense, so my guess is the Sept 4th outing was a factor of being off longer than normal plus him not being 100%.

I agree, if he says he is fine, then you have to let him figure it out

Thats a very good probability about the mechanical change, so hopefully this rest with essentially some side sessions/bullpens should get both back on track. I cannot see us making it in the wild card without a healthy Hand.

It's interesting that some of the same people who were upset at any criticism of Francona are now upset that Hand wasn't shelved earlier.

To me, if there's any part of Tito's management that might be beyond reproach, it's the way he handles his players.

I'd be absolutely shocked to hear that we didn't handle this the right way. I bet we expressed concern, but trusted Hand when he said he was fine.

The entire Indians beat missing that their closer wasn't even in the clubhouse yesterday.

*chef's kiss*

I honestly don’t think any of them were even in LA.

I was listening to MLB Network Radio this morning and they played some sound from Tito during last night's postgame. Hoynes was 100% there. I heard his voice asking a question.

Not sure why @Derek found the post funny, but the piece does mention that Carlin is viewed as a potential future big league manager.

The TV announcers knew he had been sent back to Cleveland. They mentioned it during the game.
