Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Eddie was an odd one - nothing in his recent numbers that would indicate he would struggle hitting the ball - or hitting it a long way - even last season his most productive month of hitting was september - still not 30 years old and it was not unreasonable for the twins to non-tender him - seemed we would get a power bat with low obp - oddly we get the low obp but not the power - swing and a miss i guess

Get one major league corner OF bat in a trade for Rule 5 eligible prospects and sign another in FA, assuming the payroll will increase enough to allow it. Another Eddie Rosario type signing.

Both moves would increase the payroll and we also need to augment the bullpen. I'm not sure both a trade and free agent signing are doable under the current salary structure.
Have you looked at the 2022 FA OFers? It ain't pretty my friend. It they don't trade for an OFer then they probably won't add one.

I can see us going for a Canha type, but you aren't wrong at the current moment the depth isn't there. At the same time though, we never know who exactly will be non-tendered or how the new CBA will effect who will be free agents.

Looking at Arizona's roster, they could use a 3B and some MIF help. It appears that they match up well with us, but admittedly that's at a quick glance. I don't know how, but if we could get Marte and either one of their C that would certainly be a couple of good additions.

Bart and Yaz would be ideal targets. What do the Giants need to get better?

Barnhardt and Winker fit the needs of this team. The Reds could always use a SP and a SS.

The Cubs are beginning a rebuild so Contreras and Happ might be good targets. This would probably be the least expensive in terms of prospects.

There's Adell and Stassi out in California, but Adell is a risky acquisition IMO.

Some idiot on the BTV sight proposed a trade that sends Bieber and Rocchio to Toronto for Monoah, Moreno, and Hernandez. Seems far fetched, but I would seriously consider it if Toronto was interested.

I'm sure there are a couple of other teams that match up well, but to get good players it will have to hurt.

Canha is a good player, but he will be 33 next season and I'm not sure that would work for more than 1 season.

My trade targets would be Mitch Haniger and/or Jesse Winker.
Getting one would make a huge difference. Getting both makes us a true division contender. (Go ahead, put together a lineup with those names in it.)
How do you trade for names like those? My trade bait is Plesac, NJones, Gimenez, Zimmer, Rocchio, and any pitcher in the system not named Espino. (We just drafted a boatload of pitchers, and some of them should come fast.) Another name I'd consider moving is Amed. (Can he play 2B? Who knows?)
We need to make moves that are difference makers.

In addition to Canha, there are a few interesting corner OFs that will be FAs, or may have their options declined.

Starling Marte
Andrew McCutchen
Chris Taylor

Why would the Reds trade Winker? He's 28, hitting .289/.890 and .341 with runners in scoring position.

They have four starting pitchers with ERA's under 4.05. Who do we have that they would want? They would be asking for McKenzie and a top prospect most likely.

He has two arby years left and then free agency. He'll get a big raise from the $3 M he's making this year.

Winker isn't worth more than McKenzie or Plesac. Especially when you factor in his arbitration raise. They lack SP depth and adding Plesac would help them. They also need a SS. What they don't lack is OF depth so it's a potential match. Sending them Plesac and Rosario would have Winker and a prospect coming back to us.

I can't believe this. Plesac and Rosario are slightly above average. Plesac would be their #5 starter. Rosario is a .280 singles hitter who plays decent shortstop. We're not getting Winker for these two.

I agree that Winker is unlikely to be traded, but no way would Plesac be the #5 in Cinci.

Hed be their #3 behind Castillo and Gray, unless you count only this year.

This is not accurate. Plesac is not their #5 and Rosario is a bit more than a singles hitter my friend. You're way overvaluing Winker here.

Maybe, but I'm partial to an .890 OPS and a .341 BA with RISP, especially after 140 games of Harold, Oscar, Zimmer, and Naylor.

I'm not an expert on the Reds, but...

Wade Miley, 12-6, 3.09
Tyler Mahle, 11-5, 3.73
Sonny Gray, 8-7, 3.80
Vladimir Gutierrez, 9-6, 4.25
Luis Castillo, 7-15, 4.24 (age 28, ERA's of 3.40 and 3.21 the last two years)

Zach Plesac, 10-5, 4.45

I'm not exactly sure who Plesac would kick out of their rotation and how much adding Zach would improve their rotation.

I still need a little convincing to believe the Reds would part with Winker for Plesac and Rosario. Their shortstop is Kyle Farmer.

Farmer .256/.713 0.7 WAR
Rosario .279/.721 1.6 WAR

It seems like that deal would create a huge hole in their offense while making a modest improvement at SS and possibly at one of their rotation spots, although that's not for sure.

same - plesac would be a BOR for the Reds - Mahle's much better - Gutierrez is having a solid rookie year and theyve got prime prospects greene and lodolo ready to make the move to the bigs

OF depth tho? - they have none - winker, castellanos and naquin are their starters - behind them are akiyama, who's been a bust, senzel who is a bust when he's playing which isnt often, aquino, who is a really, really, really poor man's zimmer - a couple weeks ago they signed delino deshields for crying out loud (and he's playing!) - last night they played max shrock in lf - his misplay in the 9th led to another reds loss --- their OF could be even thinner if castellanos opts out come the end of the season

if you want to make a deal with the reds offer them freeman, rocchio, arias, giminez and miller for india (we might have to throw in a pitching prospect too)

We arent trading 3 of our top 5 prospects plus two more for one player... if the name isn't Mike trout we arent even thinking about giving up that...

You can't accurately compare players, based upon one players career year....and you can't accurately assess a player, based upon a year in which he was hurt, unless that player has a history of being hurt.

At age 34, Miley is having a career year. Good for him. But in three of his last six years he has put up Plutkoesque numbers.

On the other hand, Plesac is having his worst year in a season in which he broke his thumb.

Cincinnati would swap Miley for Plesac in a minute.

Kyle Farmer is a 31 yr old career utility man, who is having his best season ever, a season in which he is batting 11% worse than league average. His career numbers resemble Jake Bauers. His career fWAR is 1.5, 1.4 of it this year.

Farmer would be in the discussion, along with Chang et al, of players we jettison in two months. IMO he couldn't make our 40 man.

Ameds fWAR for just this season is 2.5.

Cincinnati would trade Farmer for Amed in a NY minute.

Adding Plesac and Amed would be a huge gain.

However, it wouldn't be nearly enough to get Winker.

Without Winker, the Reds OF situation is our OF situation, if we didn't have Straw. Castellanos is gonna be a FA. Their entire OF would consist of Naquin.

**********

The Guardians have inquired about Winker, so at the very least our FO has an idea of the framework needed for a trade with Cinci.

The Reds are in a unique roster situation. They are locked into Akiyama for next year....Votto and Moose for two years, plus options...Suarez for three years plus an option.

Except for Akiyama, all are getting paid as much, or a lot more, than Jose. And, except for Votto, they probably wish they weren't.
