If you could bring back any previous Cav for this next season, who would you chose? A couple rules here.

#1. No current members of the Cavs are eligible (i.e. no young LeBron or young Andy)
#2. It has to be from their Cavs days. That means shaq is cavs shaq, not LA/ORL shaq, Phx Marion, or even Knicks Frasier.

There are a lot of really good guys to choose from, but i was thinking about this today and I think I would go with Ron Harper.

This team currently clearly isn't lacking star power, so I think a swiss army knife type player would be an excellent option. This team clearly has it pretty good at wing with LeBron, Shumpert and JR. I think Jefferson is a little suspect given his age. What Harper brings that neither shump or JR brings is the ability to play point guard as a bigger wing.

Blatt could get really creative with a 25 year old Harper as he can mix and match him with just about anybody. His biggest weakness is that he is a below average 3 point shooter. He did however play in an era where it was more of an afterthought, but had one really good season later in his career where his attempts per minute were at his highest. His career average is .289, but I think with a higher focus on that shot it is something that could easily be improved.

So, what is everybody else thinking? Double down at point guard with Mark Price? Not a bad choice because of how awesome he was, but I feel he is too redundant. would you increase depth at Center with one of Brad or big Z? Would you increase your dribbles per possession and long two output with Dion Waiters?

Good fun topic. First inclination was to go with price. But we are set there so I go with Larry Nance and tell Tristan to get lost. End thread?
Nance is a pretty good choice and someone I thought of. He provides shot blocking that Tristan doesn't, but he's not as good of a rebounder. Ultimately Tristan will for sure be on the team and I trust Tristan a lot more than I trust Jeffeson. Harper can play more positions and i think brings more versatility. I know we are all mad at Tristan right now, but he does produce.

Nance would definitely be great, but it'd be tough to beat a healthy, in-his-prime Big Z. He'd be a great offensive weapon off the bench. We could play big, dominate the offensive glass, and still stretch the floor with Love. Go ultra big with Moz and Z. Plus, he'd be a good fit alongside TT off the bench.

I just can't imagine the chaos a lineup of Irving, Smith, James, Love, and Big Z would cause opposing defenses. That's two bigs that can pass, play on the block, clean the offensive glass, AND stretch the floor.

Everyone is going to bring up obvious names and the more well known ex-Cavs...I'm going with Wesley Person. 42.2% 3 point shooter with the Cavs, pretty good defender...getting all those open looks with LBJ, Kyrie, and K Love on the floor? Yikes.

Just bring him in with JR and enjoy.

I feel like a Wally slap every game or two would take us over the top.

I concur. It would be a nightmare for defenses. He and Love would be best buds I think. Outside Z, I'd say:

Pair Hot Rod with TT on the second unit and shit is getting blocked and the boards crashed. Moz and Hot Rod protecting the rim 48 minutes a game. Moreover, Hot Rod's post-game also allows TT to do what he does best (other than have his shot blocked): No pressure to score and be there for the Offensive Rebound in the event of a miss.

World B. Free.

I only remember him from reading Scholastic News in elementary school because he had a cool name  You'll have to expound...

I'm going with SF Mike Mitchell.

Can you imagine those small ball lineups? LeBron at the 4, Mitchell at the 3. Yikes.

Most people don't think about Mitchell because the Cavs traded him so early in his career but he was really, really talented. He also fills our biggest need IMO, which is a SF who can not only lengthen LeBron's career but also play at a high level at the 3 during stretches where we go small.

Jay Guidinger. Super Bowl for the win.

Come on... the guy had like 51 points and 47 points. Put him on today's team... unstoppable. Yeah, sure, those were his point totals for the whole season... but he just didn't get enough minutes to really shine.

(I say Jay only because my basketball coaching friend and I used to bemoan how a guy like him could play in the NBA... and it is only due to his height... and how if either of us were 6'10... we would be so much better... etc, etc...)

...but I agree with the OP... first player to come to mind was Ron Harper. And he could play tough defense, had good size, was not a volume shooter... he'd be a great fit.
