2011 MLB Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, I agree about BPA. Just looking for instant gratification like we all want. If Kipnis doesn't work out at 2B then having Lindor is a plus I guess even though he's so young he's probably 4 years away.

Don't forget about Cord Phelps as well. Tribe looks pretty set at middle infield for a while. Would have preferred some type of power bat at one of the corner outfield spots, but I'm not really that familiar with the prospects so I have no idea who that could have been. BPA is certainly the way to go, but it seems like all the Indians ever draft are HS kids who at best are probably three years from contributing at the major league level. It just would have been nice to get a bat that could have maybe contributed as soon as next season.

You do know the last high schooler the Tribe drafted in the first round was back in 2000 right?

Yeah I know, which is what I said in my original post. It's hard to be like, "oh yeah, Lindor! Looks good" when you know they probably want him to take over for Cabrera when he goes to the Pinstripes.

Let's not forget that right now Asdrubal is statistically the worst SS in baseball- worse than even that guy currently in pinstripes. We all love his offensiv explosion here, but worrying about where the 17 year old draftee will play is the least of the concerns we should have. It will be a wonderful problem to have in a few years if Lindor pans out- hopefully it does, and the Tribe can get something as good as Masterson/Hagadone when the time comes to promote the youngster over the defensively-fading vet.

Color me happy if the "worst defensive SS in baseball" stays here for a long, long time as long as he hits like that.

Ha, good call on that one. I guess it just seems that way singe the last guy we took in the first round that had any type of extended impact was CC. Obviously everyone is pretty high on the last 3 picks (Pomeranz, White, Chisenhall) so hopefully the tides are changing.

Which is ridiculous. They really need to fix the draft shit in the new CBA

I was pretty pissed cause the Pirates #2 pick falls at 61. I think they need to fix the part where it makes sense for a team to lose a type A and then sign another type A cause that results in the addition of 2 extra sandwich picks. i.e. The Sox can lose Victor Martinez and sign Carl Crawford and gain a pick.

Took Dillon Howard. He was a top 25 talent.

Howard is a hard throwing righthander, who, according to Baseball America, is the best prospect from Arkansas since Torii Hunter.

Howard throws in the low to mid 90′s with good movement. He regularly hits 95 on the radar gun. Howard uses both a two-seam and a four-seam fastball. Both his 12/6 curve and his changeup are potential plus pitches. He has a smooth delivery, but is sometimes inconsistent.

Josh Bell? Great pick, but good luck on that one. There's a reason he didn't get selected early: dude wants like $5 million

Tribe just took Jake Sisco, whose name sounds too much like Andy Sisco's, thus I don't like him.

Damage- with the new CBA coming up and draft changes being a given- this is one spot that I think the union will do a give/get with the owners regardless of what the power agents want- this is as good of a draft as any to just say 'fuck it' to the signing bonus demands and pay the man. Bell is going to cost a ton, but seeing where the Pirates got him, after adding all these power arms the last two years, I think you 'pony up' for him. On the plus side for the Pirates, if he doesn't sign, oh well- they only wasted a 3rd rounder on him (61st pick is the start of the 3rd rd, no matter what Selig says).

Also, yeah, the number of compensation picks the Rays had this year was absurd- with many of those for relievers. They looked like they were just throwing shit against the wall with the last 3, too, taking guys rated two-three rounds later b/c they want to make sure they can sign them. TB's draft spending could be nuts this year.

1st of all, Lindor has a stroke alot like Manny's... This guy is gonna be awesome I think. Say if he's ready 2-3 years maybe 4, possibly Asdrubal is still at short, will we convert Lindor to 2nd?

Now going back to last years draft, everyone was happy with the LeVon pick, where the hell is he now?

Struggling in Lake County.

Indians take Jake Lowery C James Madison. Huge power numbers at JMU.

I suppose it's possible, but it's rather difficult to say what might happen at 2nd in the future until we see Kipinis and Phelps can do at the major league level. My guess is that if Lindor turns out to be as good as most people think he will be, Asdrubal will get traded to fill another position or moved over to 2nd. It's pretty difficult to predict what's going to happen in the IF over the next few years because even though most are expecting Phelps/Kipnis and Chisenhall to take over at 2nd and 3rd, there's also the real possibility that none of them end up becoming anything and Asdrubal is no longer here.
