2011 MLB Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
2010 Draft Prospects and how they are doing so far in 2011. Outside of Pomeranz, the list gets pretty ugly.

Drew Pomeranz: 2-1, 1.85 era, 48.2 IP, 32 H, 63 Ks in Kinston
LeVon Washington: .229 BA, .600 OPS, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 28 K, 6 SB in 96 at bats in Lake County
Tony Wolters: Broken Hand, yet to play in 2011
Kyle Blair: 3-3, 5.37 ERA, 52 IP, 51 H, 47 Ks in Lake County
Cole Cook: 2-6, 4.82 ERA 56 IP, 70 H, 35 Ks in Lake County
Nick Bartolone: .193 BA, .492 OPS, 0 HR, 9 RBI, 28 K, 3 SB in 135 at bats in Lake County
Robert Aviles: Tommy John surgery, yet to play in 2011
Alexander Lavisky: .203 BA, .636 OPS, 7 HR, 22 RBI, 57 K in 158 at bats in Lake County
Jordan Cooper: 1-2, 4.44 ERA, 24.1 IP, 20 H, 23 K in Lake County
Tyler Holt: .247 BA, .684 OPS, 1 HR, 9 RBI, 46 K, 13 SB in 186 at bats in Kinston

to be fair, Lavisky, Holt and, for all intents & purposes Washington, were all H.S. players last year. Sometime it takes a while (2-3 years) for these kids to fully develop.

Now going back to last years draft, everyone was happy with the LeVon pick, where the hell is he now?

He was hurt for the first month, month and a half then went to Lake County. Struggling for right now.

Anyone have a list of who the Indians drafted so far?

1st. Fransisco Lindor, SS
2nd. Dillon Howard, RHP Searcy H.S.
3rd. Jake Sisco, RHP Merced JC
4th: Jake Lowery,, C James Madison

5th round pick is coming soon.

5th Round: William Roberts, RHP Virginia

Threw a perfect game

Not really understanding the strategy here. We went big with our first two picks, but have gone safe the last 3. Like extremely safe, as in overdrafting safe.

Also, don't we have enough young pitching prospects? I'm not saying ignore the pitching, but jesus do we need an influx of hitting prospects.

Going to cost them a lot of money to get Lindor and Howard in, probably the reasoning behind it.

Perfect game, from ESPN
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Virginia's Will Roberts tossed the first perfect game in school history, striking out 10 in the Cavaliers' 2-0 victory over George Washington on Tuesday.

The junior right-hander from Richmond needed 98 pitches in the eighth NCAA Division I nine-inning perfect game since 1957. Roberts (5-0) recorded 27 straight outs to complete the 19th perfect game of any length in Division I, and the first since Auburn's Eric Brandon in 2002.

Roberts also joined Maryland's Dick Reitz (1959) as the only pitchers to throw perfect games in Atlantic Coast Conference history.

The victory was the 2,000th overall for Virginia (25-2), ranked No. 1 in some national polls.

Tom Gately (2-3) took the loss for George Washington (7-18).

I was thinking exactly this. We don't have many promising hitting prospects. The list drops off after Kipnis and Chis.

The Indians have always preached "you can never have enough pitching."

I'm not surprised in the least bit they've gone this route.

Not saying I know what their strategy is in the least bit, but it could be either:

1.) They feel like most MLB teams are always looking for young promising arms. They'll be able to shop some of their surplus of arms for young promising bats.

2.) They are looking more for ML ready hitters, and again, with their surplus of arms, can shop a couple for a guy more ML ready (or already in the majors) and maybe with a little more upside than a guy they can get in this draft.

Couple of interesting selections in the top 15:
Bryson Myles an OF out of Weatherford College. Dude is 5'11, 235 pounds and had 54 stolen bases. Could be a real steal. :chuckles:
From Jeff Green:
Bryson Myles is a former football star who played for Stephen F. Austin University in college. He was a commitment to TCU coming out of high school. He is a big guy who might have the ability to hit for power, but his best skill is his plus plus speed. He also has very good bat speed. He set his schools hit record this past season thanks to his quick wrists and excellent bat speed. He has the potential to be a five tool player down the road; his arm is a bit weaker so he might profile best in CF down the road. The Indians take an athlete who is still raw as the game was not his focus for many years. He should be an interesting player to watch with a lot of upside.

OSU commit Eric Haase, C is the 2nd catcher the Indians drafted in the top 6 rounds. Interesting to say the least. Kid has a bunch of raw potential. Hit .495, with 14 homers/12 doubles/55 RBI's/40 runs

The other kid I'm very intrigued with is Stephen Tarpley, a USC commit. He was injured this season, which is why he slid. If he didn't get injured, he could have been a top 75 pick.
From Jeff Ellis:
currently sits in the low 90’s. He also looks like he could develop a plus breaking pitch. With his athletic ability Tarpley is another high upside player for the Indians. They are taking players with commitments to major schools and just going to try and sign as many as possible. Tarpley looks like he could be the rare high velocity lefty down the road.
Again, Indians being very aggressive.

LOL, I remember our RCF "experts" on here raving about that draft.

Josh Bell? Great pick, but good luck on that one. There's a reason he didn't get selected early: dude wants like $5 million

I think that we'll throw about 3.5-5 million in front of him at the deadline and see what he says. He claims that he really wants to go to Texas, but hopefully money can change that. We need as many hitters as possible so he would be a welcome get.
