2012 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: The 2012 NBA Draft Lottery Thread

The big thing about the GSW pick is it was TOP 7 protected if they had landed at 8 they would have given up their pick to Utah

This won't be finalized until after the draft lottery. If another team skips ahead of GSW at the draft lottery, that pick could still fall to Utah. Not high percentages, but the #8 pick won it all last year. Certainly Warriors fans are very happy today, but the story's not quite settled.

Re: The 2012 NBA Draft Lottery Thread

what are the odds GS loses their pick. Since it was a tie, it's more than the 25% the #7 seed usually has of slipping.

And when is the lottery itself?

Re: The 2012 NBA Draft Lottery Thread

My guess the Cavs board is like this:
1.Unibrow: Consensus one, has some character concerns but to much talent to pass up.
2.Brad Beal: I think the Cavs love him
3.Andre Drummond: To much raw talent and has some character concerns
4.Harrison Barnes: Bunch of talent, but he seems to float away mentally at times
5.MKG: overrated talent, but better than whats left.

What Character issues might Davis have? The kid was fifth on Kentuckys teams in shots taken despite everyone in the universe knowing he was going to be the first player drafted since January or so. Most players, especially freshmen, in that situation would have been screaming for their shots.

All the kid did was whatever it took to win. If the Cavs get him we'll have the nucleus of a perennial top three seed for a decade with him and Irving.

Re: The 2012 NBA Draft Lottery Thread

lmao "character concerns" is thrown around like confetti at a tanking Warriors game.

Re: The 2012 NBA Draft Lottery Thread

I have to second catfan's post. What character concerns does Davis have besides a lack of facial grooming?

Re: The 2012 NBA Draft Lottery Thread

what are the odds GS loses their pick.

24.95% chance that it falls to 8 (23.13%), 9 (1.79%) , or 10 (0.03%)

depends on the luck of the draw

Re: The 2012 NBA Draft Lottery Thread

Whether by chance or not, the conspiracy theorists will have some fuel added to their collective fire with these results.

Here's the results of each coin flip (and conspiracy theorists' bitching that is surely happening around the league)

Cleveland over New Orleans (LBJ pity)
Sacramento over New Jersey (New Jersey loses the pick anyway if they don't get into the top 3, so they threw the Kings a bone)
Golden State over Toronto (Big market out West + a fuck you to Canada)
New York over Dallas (nuff said)
Dallas over Utah (bigger market)
LA Clippers over Atlanta (nuff said)
Lakers/Cleveland over Memphis (bigger market/LBJ pity)
Chicago over San Antonio (bigger market)

And don't get me wrong, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but it is still funny to think about the angles :chuckles:

NBA still owes us for Rashard Lewis and LBJ ;)

He has as many character concerns as Harrison Barnes does. Both have mentioned their brands before being drafted. I don't think EITHER player has any real character issues, but that's all anyone can say about these guys off the floor.

I'm not really concerned with Barnes' character but he created a logo and tried to coin the nickname "Black Falcon"

Anthony Davis said on Jimmy Kimmel (I think?) he wouldn't shave his unibrow because it's a part of his brand

Pretty big difference between the two

Re: The 2012 NBA Draft Lottery Thread

2 random draft-related thoughts:
1) I'm really tired of all the media whining about teams tanking. Instead of blaming the teams for trying to get better by getting worse for a year or two, they should be targeting the NBA who creates the system. SportsGuy's end of the season tournament would be a revolution in American professional sports, would instantly create a major buzz and would do away with the tanking aspect to some extent. Until they make some kind of fundamental change, no reason not to do it. When you know a Lebron James or Anthony Davis are awaiting at #1, you do what you can when you suck to get better.
2) I'm not saying that Drummond showed anywhere near the potential that Cousins did in his 1 yr in college, but Cousins dropped to 5 due to questions about his character and motor. It's a risk, and it still is in fact for Sac as he's been a problem child since drafted. But when he shows up and plays hard, the dude looks like one of the top 3 centers in the game. What if he had gone to a functional organization with a good coaching staff? Anyway, I think the Cavs can't afford the risk at this point, they need as close to a sure thing as they can (MKG, Beal, even Barnes), even if he's not a star, but it'll be hard for many GMs to pass on him for someone with far less potential.

The difference is that the questions around Cousins were almost all attitude (a little effort, I guess). I don't think that Drummond is viewed a risk because he will just arrogantly phone it in. He simply hasn't figured out how to maximize his talent on the basketball court.

Personally, I would much rather have a guy that just hasn't "figured it out" over a guy that could be the best big man in the league but simply isn't willing to put in the effort to make it happen.

So, I actually like Drummond better than Cousins because I don't sense the attitude problems. He seems like a good kid.

Some of you are making too much of a big deal out of brands. Talking about brands doens't automatically make them like Lebron, personaity-wise.
