2012 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Having watched the Kings a lot in recent years, I would be surprised if Cousins will not become a superstar in this league. Yes, he is immature and lets his emotions carry him away sometime. Yes, he loves his mid range shot and coast to coast dribbling and fancy passes. Yes, he sometimes does not try hard at D. But he has also tuned down his whining and complaining, is a beast on the boards and just has such incredible skills and court vision, but most of all the softest hands. He can battle two guys for a rebound and snatch the ball out of the air with one guy tugging at his other arm and still go up for a shot. He's like the anti-Hickson from a hands perspectve.

Being a player in an organization run by the Maloofs may be his biggest problem, but he has such a desire to succeed, I am sure he will make it. His teammate Tyreke Evans on the other hand, seems aloof and unwilling to put in the hard work and commitment to become really great.

I'd take the guy with a little bit less talent but more drive over the talented guy who is sure that everything will go his way.

I'd love us to get Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. A guy who plays D like that and still is a weapon on offense is rare.
you must have a pretty loose definition of the word superstar

so it is 1- Davis 2. MKG 3. BEAL 4. BARNES on Cavs board. We are in great position to have HB as our 'wordt case scenario": I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

We need to move up from 24 to get Jeff Taylor!!!!!!
that is a pretty bad worst case scenario tbh

worst case scenario should be whoever is remaining among beal, drummond, and gilchrist if the cavs are picking #5, assuming robinson goes in the top 4.

The draft is june 28 but when is the pingpong ball show to determine where we pick?? Thanks opps just saw may 30
it sucks. it's basically: find out the final standings - wait a month - find out where your team will actually be picking - wait a month - find out who they actually draft. too much of a tease imo.

He never said that was the Cavs board, all he said was that we need a wing, and then listed the top 3 wings. It's nothing new.

Just had a pretty detailed post about the Cavs' view of the top 5 and my laptop crashed...great stuff! So instead I'll just list it:

1. Davis
2. Beal
3.MKG
4. Drummond
5. Lamb

That's my view of how the Cavs would have it right now with the info available to us, not my own personal board. But without knowing whether the Cavs have any additional info on Drummond and without knowing how Scott and Grant view the challenge of motivating such a huge talent, it's hard to know where they value the bigman. Nobody knows...

As prospects the 2-4 slots, to me, are set far and above the next tier, even the gamble on Drummond supercedes any love of Barnes they may have in my opinion. I'm not totally sure on Lamb above Barnes, but since max stated that Barnes hasn't been in the Cavs' top 5 in awhile, it's a tossup between lamb and Jones.

Re: The 2012 NBA Draft Lottery Thread

I agree with you. Its something you defintiely have to to under advisement. But I don't think its a deal breaker at all. I can see criticizing Harrison for his poor playoff performance, lack of driving skills, etc. But the brand stuff doesn't worry me. From the interviews he comes of as very down to Earth. I don't know him personally, but I don't think he would mind playing here. Plus, look who is picking in the top 6 likely (Charlotte, New Orleans, Washington, Cleveland, Sacramento, and Blazers (Nets pick). Cleveland is in the best position out of all those teams imo.

Good post and I think you are right on with Barnes. I'm not worried about his character in the least or that his game will translate into anything less than a very good starter for an nba team. He is warranting some deserved criticism but I think what he is receiving is a little high. The workouts for mkg, beal, Drummond, and Barnes should paint a huge picture to where each will go. Davis is the only sure fire thing in this draft.

On Cousins...

I went to a Kings-Warriors game back in March and I was completely amazed how polarizing DeMarcus Cousins was...

On one hand, he looked like the laziest, more lethargic player I have ever seen in the NBA. Not getting back on defense in transition (not even trying to, actually) was what amazed me the most. A lot of the time, his body language screamed, "I DON'T WANT TO BE HERE!!"

But then in the half court game, (when he actually tried) he was completely dominant on both ends of the ball - easily the best player on the court, and it wasn't even close.

I walked away thinking "Man, I wish the Cavs could get him" and also thinking "Man, what a lazy shit head"

It's amazing.

I think the consensus top 6 would be (except for Davis and Barnes/Beal in no particular order)

Davis
Robinson
MKG
Drummond
Beal
Barnes

So we are getting one of those guys.

I think the Davis or Drummond scenarios are similar. We look for a wing with the later picks. Lots of guys I like could be around, from Draymond Green to Orlando Johnson to Doron Lamb, Jeffrey Taylor... Maybe a euro stash like Evan Fournier. I think with either we keep Tristan and Andy til mid season and then we look at how things are going. Maybe trade Andy if the tea leaves are right, or keep everybody if the chemistry is good.

I think that the Beal Scenario is a bit different. I think at that point we might try to trade up for a young center, and Andy could be in play, Portland comes to mind, or we try festus or Melo at the lakers pick. Honestly, I like this scenario the least.

And then MKG or Barnes, also might take us to try to pick up a young center, or we could try to trade or sign a free agent in the offseason. If we pick our center, expect Andy to stay, and we might pick up a free agent or second rounder for a shooting guard. If we sign our center, then I would expect doron lamb or tony Wroten or similar were available at the lakers pick.

Robinson is the only pick that is a bit messy. I think if he is there, you have to take him, and unless you swing a deal for more center like big, you keep him and Tristan for the time being. You may have to trade one later, but I don't think you pass on Robinson because you have Tristan.. I am thinking Robinson in the scenario where we sit at four, and the top three turn out to be Davis, Drummond, and MKG. ....I just don't think beal and Barnes are on the same level as those top four .

If Michael Kidd Gilchrist, Drummond and Beal are on the board when the Cavaliers select, does anyone believe that the Cavaliers would pass up MKG? I think he may very well be our primary target. Seems like a Byron Scott type of guy. The Saint Pats dynamic with he an Kyrie also comes into play too.

On the real, Michael Gilchrist is deceivingly athletic. He can just effortlessly pop himself off the ground for a two hand flush with no real run-up. With Gee guarding the 2 and MKG guarding the 3, the Cavaliers are suddenly potent defensively.

If there is any way that the Cavs could get Quincy Miller I would be ecstatic. He's the sleeper in this draft. Mini Durant, smooth, handles, jumper, athletic. Quincy Miller is the real deal. He is so young, and with the Cleveland Clinic, I would have no reservations taking him even considering his ACL injury.

Quincy Miller is almost exactly Durant's height and length. There's nothing mini about him.

I think ultimately the draft will be :

1. Davis
2. Drummond
3. MKG
4. Robinson
5. Beal
6. Barnes

I think that is how most teams boards will be, I think we pass on Robinson for Beal/Barnes because of TT.

Most Good teams are watching and rooting for their team to win a Championship during that time.

In the 2012 draft, in addition to their own lottery pick, the Cavs own:

Round 1:#24 (Lakers)
Round 2: #3 (Hornets)
Round 2: #4 (Cavs)

Here is the complete order (pending lottery) http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2012/04/2012-nba-draft-tiebreakers-odds.html

I just don't see an aggressive owner like Gilbert waiting till #24 to use that 2nd pick.

Although, another option is to make a trade with that pick for a young vet that fills a need. It would be easier than signing a FA.
Things may become clearer after the lottery.

Davis-Moultrie-D. Lamb-D. Miller is my dream scenario.

I just hope Barnes or Kidd make our perimeter D beast because I cant see a lineup of Kyrie, Kidd?Barnes, Gee, TT, AV being that bad defensivly. If we went back to 2007 and 2008 wher eour D was amazing but offense was trash ill happily accept that because we'll play with ANYBODY

I know we need a center (among other things) but Drummond is scaring me more and more....

Me too man. Can we really have Drummond and TT out on the court with a 1 point lead, or down by a couple?
