2019 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I agree I think it is BPA with a focus on defense. I also don’t see us bringing in 8 players, with what we did in FA I could this as a year that we trade up in rounds to get the guy we want, or try to move picks to next year. As our rosters gets older and expensive in the next few years it would be good to have good draft capital to add cheap young talent. We are in a unique spot with how young are roster is that we can have a light year in the draft and would not hurt us long term. To me a goal should be to try and find a way add a 3rd round pick to next year. Get 3/4 players out of this draft, and pick up 1/2 picks for next year. I think we will be a hot spot for some undrafted players.

I hope we continue to take advantage of the market inefficiency that future picks are undervalued. Trade some picks this year for picks next year at the already established one-round-higher premium.

I agree, also we need to make sure we are back filling players, as the next few years I don't see us being big in the FA market, so as we lose guys we can get the comp picks. This is an area that NE has been very good at, letting go players who get overpaid and get nice little 3rd/4th comp picks.

Layne is awesome. Legit track star, just an awesome athlete and improving his CB game. Hes a guy in 3 years that we wonder why he went in the late 1st to early 2nd

Mock Draft (Monday) - Sad There's No First Rounder Edition:

2 (49) - Justin Layne - CB - Michigan St. - Pray to whoever it is you pray to that he doesn't go earlier. He's still pretty raw talent wise, came in as a WR. Elite length and athleticism, just so natural in his movements. The perfect compliment to Ward.

Others considered: CB DeAndre Baker (UGA), OT Greg Little (OleMiss), CB Trayvon Mullen (Clemson), S Nasir Adderly (Delaware), S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (Florida)

3 (80) - Taylor Rapp - S - Washington - I think he'll slide a bit for not being a truly great athlete. He's so smart and technically sound, beautiful tackling form and always finds his way into the action. Can play deep or close to the line, is a very adept blitzer.

Others considered: S Amani Hooker (Iowa), S Darnell Savage (Maryland), LB Blake Cashman (Minnesota), DL Khalen Saunders (Western Illinois), DL Daniel Wise (Kansas)

4 (115) - Stanley Morgan Jr. - WR - Nebraska - This isn't a need pick, its simply another weapon to add into this offense. Morgan is adept at multiple levels, very experienced, great route runner, strong hands at the catch point. He's not overly big or fast, but he's going to be a long time NFL player. He should compete with Callaway right away.

5 (144) - Oli Udoh - OT - Elon - Freaky measurables, but he's so utterly raw that its a stretch to assume that he'd ever be a starter. Fortunately, the Browns have an opportunity to draft and develop with no issues worrying about him needing to play immediately. In that time, they'll have to built him from the ground up to take advantage of his absurd size.

5 (155) - David Long - LB - West Virginia - Tough, hard nosed player who plays very physical. Struggles in pass coverage, but overall plays with the level of physicality where you hope you can develop more.

5 (170) - Brett Rypien - QB - Boise State - He's as good as anyone in these middle rounds. Makes some tight window throws vertically down the field. Purely a project guy to play behind Mayfield.

6 (189) - Corey Ballentine - CB - Washburn - Small school guy who has all the athleticism in the world for the position at a shade over 200 pounds.

7 (221) - Mathieu Betts - EDGE - Laval (Canada) - Tough looking dude who has built himself up and developed a decent array of moves.

What would it cost to move into the First Round and would be worth it say after Pick 20?

One player I keep coming back to in the middle of the second round area is Yodney Cajuste. I think he belongs in that "future starting left tackle" category. He has great balance between pass protection on an island for a major college program and powerful run blocking. Defensive back is a bigger team need, but I like the value of taking a legitimate left tackle to push Robinson and Hubbard in the mid-second.

He really hasn’t been able to work out too much this offseason.

I think he falls because of it. I’d be all over that if he does.

Does he also play with crystals? If he does, I’m out.
