Sir'Dominic Pointer - A Cleveland Cavalier

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
To pick a big topic right now...

Would you say that someone who instinctively (not actively or intentionally) reacts to the idea of two men having sex with repulsion but treats gays the same way as straights and has gay friends that he respects is for discrimination against homosexuals?

I couldn't even follow the rest of your post, so I stopped with this part.

I'm repulsed by the thought of two guys doing it. I'm also repulsed by the thought of someone doing it with a fat ugly chick. Just because I find certain sex to be gross doesn't mean I support discrimination against the people who engage in it.

The people I do support discrimination against are those who bitch if someone else find certain sexual relationships to be gross. Intolerant douches as far as I'm concerned.

It's like demanding that everyone like the same food or music. Ridiculous.

BTW, how has this Oi derailment part of this thread not been moved yet?

I didn't say black people aren't allowed to have ethnic names.

Chinese guy with funny names? What the hell? Chinese names are from another language.

You are off the rails in this post.

This is a very important post. A traditional name, whether it is English, Norwegian, Chinese, Nigerian is completely different than something like Sir'Dominic.

@The Oi is spot on about this. Look, parents aren't doing their kids any favors giving them goofy names. It's not just minority sounding names. Names like Sunshine and Apple would make me look for a Janet or Karen resume too. Plenty of melting pot names to choose from. Even hipster names like Hunter and Mason are ok if you must. Apostrophes should not be in the name, and alternate spellings outside of Bryan with the y are also asking for trouble. I can't exactly explain it, I can just tell you how corporate America works. You want to get the interview and let that personality shine. Funny name can't help, but it can hurt.

Source: I have had to hire people before.

Edit: English. I'm a math guy. English is for pussies.

Possibly, I've hired as many as you, having run three companies and starting a fourth this summer.

My perspective is: I think you're part of the problem.

Talking about "how things are" and "that's just the way it is" is what people do to defend poor behavior.

In this case, not merely poor behavior but quite literally: racism. As proven by multiple scientific studies (two of which I've already linked to).

If you, or anyone, uses a person's name to make decisions then it's your thoughts and behavior that needs changing, not their name.

I've had enough of your bullshit.

But he REALLY has.

I am not exactly talking about myself. I've only hired a few people for entry level type jobs, so I don't have a lot of experience with it. But this stuff happens, and I think what Jigo and I were saying is, parents are not doing their kids any favors with the unique names. It doens't hurt Sir'Dominic in basketball, but it might in corporate America.

All things equal, I don't really care what someone's name is if they can do the job. But someone else might care.

Again, don't shoot the messenger. It's not just names, I've seen resumes get tossed for things like "ballroom dancing" being on a male resume. Shouldn't have any impact but I have seen it happen.

Edit: and it's not "racism". I once saw a news story of a teen named "Chevy-Van" or something like that. Obviously his (likely white) parents did not put him on the fast track for Partner at Jones Day.

Should be hiring my first and possibly second employees this spring.

Going to make sure that I toss every application with a normal name.

His name is stupid, but let's not pretend he would be anything special if his name was John and he didn't play basketball. That being said I came to his thread thinking I could learn about him as a player, wow was I off. Is there a place that's talking about his playing or is it just the first page of this thread?

I was analogizing the idea of instinctively having a negative reaction to somebody' sexual acts vs disliking what they're doing vs actually discriminating against them for it to instinctively being irritated by a name, disliking the name or actually tossing a resume because of the name.

It's funny that you latched onto the homosexuality part. I think you missed some thread. :chuckle:

two guys doing it.

What are you 11 months old?

So we say Sir'Dom's Mom is an idiot for naming him Sir'Dominic, but he is still being discussed becuase of his name, not his game.

Who is the idiot now? :chuckle:

If iname my kid"pancake mcfuckhead" do iget to be shocked when anyone has aproblem with it and and can i look down on society for not getting it?

Not if your kid is a girl because everyone knows Pancake McFuckhead is a boys name.
