The dude glides when he moves. I haven't seen anything like it...at least not in any NBA centers today. It's so evident that this kid can be a superstar.
I think Wiggins and Parker are both very impressive in a lot of ways, but Embiid's on a whole 'nother level.

My god he moves like he Is on ice. Or as shoes stated glides. This alone with out the Offensive upside could put him In the Convo for the top pick alone.

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

^ He has this other play where he overshot his assignment, started chopping his feet backwards, turned himself around, blocked the shot on the other side of the rim, as Smart attempted a baseline reverse layup. It was abnormal for a character that size to be moving sideways and turning his torso like a cornerback or something. You could really see the coordination, and anticipation on full display.

Another play of his I loved. You know how MJ cuffed the ball kinda backhanded for the cradle dunk? Remember how Shaq would hit you with that strong drop step, get his shoulder past you, reverse cuff the ball and just tear the rim off with a one hander? He did that, it was a post up, beat the defender with the shoulder, cuffed the ball, and dunked it back handed and just pulled the rim down one handed. The whole goal flexed, it reminded me of the Diesel, only 50 pounds lighter.

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

To all those who are on the fence about Joel Embiid and the center position consider this:

His jump shot might be the best part about him, when it's all said and done.

This jumper of his has a Kevin Durant like quality to it. It is un-fucking-blockable. Yes UN-Blockable, and he's showing remarkable touch. The touch is there, if you can't see it, then that's on you; it's there.

Can you explain this? Do you mean JE will be as good of a shooter as KD (please god say no)? While I do believe he will be a great shooter, and is still my pick, I've heard his release is kind of rough. Do you have any games/pics/gifs/etc. to demonstrate what you mean?

Not sure who means but at worst I see him having a Duncan type jumper and If we get lucky and he develops It. It will not be Durant good but I can see KG or Bosh good... If he can extend out the the three point line while have a Dream typer post game... My god. See why everyone wants him because there is really unlimited potential and I mean a new type of beast since LeBron.

Yeah, I mean I agree to the extent I think he is one of the best prospects in the past 15 years. I think Wiggins and Parker are too, although, I still prefer Embiid. I just hesitate (see my debate with CosmoKramer in the Wiggins thread) because he still IS only a prospect. I think a lot of these developments (outside game, pick and roll, etc.) are "what ifs," even if they are likely "what ifs." I would take a Duncan type jumper tho

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

Every video and gif of Embiid just makes me want him on this team more and more.

I'm set up to either to be elated or crushed on draft night.

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

Emeka okafor 12/10 career stats are surprising, Joel can surpass that with ease. 16/10 with his high mobility and defense gives you one hell of a center. My point is, on paper it looks anyone can do it. In reality that kind of center production is ridiculously expensive and rare.

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

Embiid will be a 20+/10+ & 3 guy if he keeps improving at the rate he's going right now.

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

That's max salary player. We will not be able to sign a center like that. Never.

What? Or are you saying we have to draft Embiid because we could never get a MAX level center from another team to ever sign with us?

To which I'd agree, but add it's doubtful we'd ever get a MAX level FA of any position from another team to sign outright with us in FA, unless we are coming off multiple finals appearances or the player has personal ties to Cleveland.

Re: A Closer Look at Joel Embiid

Greg Oden definitely had mass, I want to say he was about 280-290 when he was drafted. He didn't have the elasticity that Embiid has. You can just see that Joel's bio mechanics are sound, there's no plodding, it's all very gracious and smooth. That's why I'm not too worried. You just got to be diligent about managing his minutes. As the bones get older and solidify, and he does further strength training it will help with bone density; he'll be fine, his body will adapt.

It can't be understated that Oden had one leg longer than the other. Since he was such a disastrous No. 1 pick, things like that are an immediate red flag these days. That's one of the main reason Sullinger dropped so far, if I remember correctly.

Embiid has no such obvious structural abnormality... at least, it doesn't appear as though he does.

There are certain things I like a lot about both Parker and Wiggins and I'm sure they'll both be fine NBA players, but if we don't take Embiid... I will rage.
