Battle for the AL Central Pt. II -|- Indians vs. Tigers -|- Sept. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I swear, I was in the middle of writing a post saying Allen should be pulled right when he gave up the HR. It's not some hindsight thing. Sure, Lee could have blown the game anyway, but I would at least have taken my chances with him.
It doesn't make it any less ridiculous. You're not pulling a guy who has been consistently dominant because he gave up two base runners.

Great pitching has hid more shitty offense when the pressure rises. Start off a huge home stand with 3 runs in 2 games. Only eclipse 3 runs every few days.

I can't take this team too seriously when there are 3 or 4 awful sticks in the line up every night.

Again...it's not because he gave up two base runners, it's because he wasn't locating his pitches. Send Mickey out there, do an infield meeting, whatever you need to do to stall for time to warm up someone else.

But whatever, this game is in the books now, no need to keep dwelling on it.

Of course not. My understanding is that the Tribe always lose these, which is why people stay away because if the Tribe loses those it means they aren't any good. I'm just using Cleveland fan causality.

Define "these"...big games? Were the previous three games against KC not big games? Or when they took 2 out of 3 against Baltimore at home?

It just seems like it because it hurts and it's the most recent big game.

so, even though Allen will be the focal point now, does anyone want to talk about how awful the offense has been lately...

Yeah, overall pitching has been really good but the offense just sucks.

I mean, when Santana is in the 4 hole hitting .230 you know you're in trouble.

Our 1-5 has just 2 guys hitting over .265. Detroit's 1-5 has 5 guys hitting .275 or better with 3 hitting .300 plus.

If a team blows a big game and no one is around to see it, does it kill a season?

Last season the Indians played the Tigers August 30th through September 1st. They lost 2 of 3. The win in the final game of the series snapped a six game losing streak. It put them at 72-64, putting them 8.5 back in the Division and 3.5 back in the Wild Card race.

Tonight they are 71-66 (I count the KC game - optimist!), putting them 5.0 back of both the Division and the Wild Card.

It ain't over.

It's likely over. Last year this time, we were only 3.5 GB in our closest race. Today we're 5 GB in our closest race. So we need to make up an extra 1.5 games between now and the end of the season to just be on pace with last year.

Remind me again how many games we lost last September?

Most action this game thread has seen in months.

Participating in the painful loss "typical Cleveland LOL" posts are a Cleveland tradition unlike anything the sports team has done.

Nice to see we've mixed in the "pull your closer after two batters" argument just to make things extra special.

Not over but that was a big swing tonight.

We hang on, we are 3 out of the WC. Give up the HR and now it is 5.

We are 9 games back of the A's in the win column. So with just one spot realistically open and a limited amount of runway left, it's tough to bounce back from 2 game swings like that.

It's important to look at the loss column more than anything, as Detroit and KC have both played one more game than Cleveland. The Indians are 4 games behind both KC and Detroit in the loss column. They have 5 head-to-head games left with Detroit and 3 with the Royals. They also play each other 6 more times.

I'm not saying I'd bet my life savings on it, but there's a lonnnnnnng way to go. A lot can change in 25 games. In ain't over.

Wouldn't that put them less out if you count the win? All this post does is make me more pissed that they didn't win tonight. THANKS.

Man I am pissed.
